GTA film deal “fell apart” at last minute
February 5th, 2008 @ 12:09

According to Variety, a GTA film deal came close to finalisation last spring with “one of the six major studios” then “at the last minute, it all fell apart”.
“I’m told Take 2 couldn’t finalize terms with the studio, though I’m not sure if it was a purely financial issue or if, in the end, the publisher got cold feet about giving away rights to its baby,” said the author of this.
A GTA film has been widely rumoured for years. That report reckons Eminem was slated as the ditched movie’s lead, so it’s missed opportunities all round, really. Maybe one day.

i wouldn’t want this to happen to be honest, i’m a huge fan of GTA have been since i was 13 (no I haven’t stolen any cars or killed anybody) and have every gta poster on my wall, i simply don’t want it to change mediums, it would be misunderstood.

I’m not sure why a city-based “Grand Theft Auto” film would be specifically seen and being “Granf Theft Auto”. It’d be a crime film in a city. How could there be anything GTA about it?

Thank god for that.
