Just a minor correction -- I actually said that Flash will have 3d polygon transforms in Flash 10, and that OpenGL in the canvas tag was something that was being worked on for Firefox. :) Not quite the same thing... though gosh, OpenGL in Flash would be nice!

"wondered if the controller was the biggest stumbling block for accessible game design. He said that handing a non-gamer a gamepad was like “handing them a loaded gun, or a grenade with the pin pulled out.”"

That's certainly a big issue and I think motion sensetive controller are a step in the right direction. I recently, well a couple of month a go, handed the PS3 controller to my mum, saying she should give it try - she has never played a single video game in her entire life - and as was to be expected she couldn't figure out how to control the car, so I told her what to do. She then was able to accelerate and reverse but somehow managed to crash into each and every rock on the track. Then I turned on the motion sensor and it suddenly became reasonably easy for her to find her way around the track without crashing that often.
