According to this, Smash Bros. Brawl doesn’t include voice chat for online games. Quite why no one’s pointed this out before is beyond us, see as the title sailed through the million mark in Japan without even blinking.
But anyway. There you go. Apparently there are strict rules about communicating through Wii - presumably as it caters for the younger end of the market - so Nintendo left the feature out altogether.

What exactly did people expect you could chat through? Have any game supported voice chat on Wii?
