According to this, the next issue of EGM has a preview of the first SOCOM game for PS3, SOCOM Confrontation, with re-confirmation that the squad-based shooter will have 32-player online fighting. There are a couple of new shots over there as well, but scant else in terms of details. Little is known of the title thus far, apart from the fact its original release date of November 2007 came and went six months ago.
Confrontation was announced in May last year, the 32-player tidbit being in the original press release.
