Leaping monkey-man and Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer has confirmed that the corp is now behind Blu-ray, following an FT interview last night with a Sony exec that said the same.
“We’ve already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like, and I think the world moves on,” he said at the Mix08 Internet conference in Seattle. “Toshiba has moved on. We’ve moved on, and we’ll support Blu-ray in ways that make sense.”
The FT piece went as far as saying that a Blu-ray drive may be included in the Elite 360, or that Microsoft may release an add-on drive in the same vein as the now defunct HD-DVD 360 player.

It’d be daft not to, really.
A BD-ROM drive inside a new 360 SKU would make more sense than an add-on. Maybe they’ll do both.

All those different SKUs are just dumb. Not having a HDD as standard is just stupid. The need for something bigger than DVDs have already been proven twice.
So releasing an Elite with Blu ray (Xbox Über) and a BD playing add-on (None of which will be allowed toplay games) sounds like a plausible course of action for MS.

I doubt they’ll include a Blu-ray drive in any of them now, tbh. Not if they’re going to be doing another console in a few years.

Actually a blu-ray addon for the 360 would be brilliant for me. I use my PS3 for US region blu-rays and I could use a cheap blu-ray addon from MS for UK region.
If only we’d stuck with HD-DVD then we wouldn’t have to worry about region encoding.
