Dutch retailer details Euro 360 price cut
March 9th, 2008 @ 20:08

According to this, Dutch retailer Bart Smith has seemingly confirmed the rumoured European Xbox 360 price cuts that did the rounds earlier this week.
According to that page, Xbox 360 Elite has dropped from €549.95 to €399.95 , the Pro console (which includes Viva Pinata and Forza Motorsport 2) was lowered from €399.95 to €299.95 while the Arcade bundle is down from €279.95 to €199.95.
These prices are in contradiction to the original story this week, which said €50 would be cut from all SKUs.
At €199.95, the Core pack will be the cheapest current gen console, dropping below the €249.95 it costs to buy a Wii.
Update: The German FT has published a story claiming Microsoft is to drop the console’s price tomorrow. All we need now is the press release, announcement fans.

What’s all that in real money?

Am I using that convertor correctly? That price cut makes the Elite approx. £305. That can’t be right, surely?
March 9th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
The euro exchange rate’s changed dramatically in the past few months, so it may all look a bit odd, yep.
March 9th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Yeah, Amazon’s listing the Elite as 280 quid. The Europes is teh tres fucking pricey at the moment.
March 9th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
@morris: That is real money.
March 9th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Yikes! So is it possible we won’t see a cut here at all? I already have an xbox but I’m thinking of getting a PS3 as well and these price cut tend to play out like a line a dominoes. When one falls they all do.
March 9th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
I’m spending a lot of money in Holland at the moment, and the exchange rate is properly, properly painful. I’ve lost a significant amount in the past six months because of it.
Conversely, you could buy loads of Elites in the UK and flog them in Germany at a profit. Bet no one’s thought of that.

I don’t reckon Sony’ll cut until Q3.
March 9th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
out of interest, what does the PS3 go for in europe these days?
March 9th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
499€ in Germany. That’s for the 40Gb version with two games and an extra controller.
March 9th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
I for one like the current exchange rate. Saves me 10 to 20€ per game.
March 9th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
£284.99 as a standalone console on Amazon. Play.com’s doing the machine with Drake’s Fortune and Devil May Cry 4 for £309.99. Both those are the 40Gb console, obv. The 60Gb BC machine’s selling secondhand on Amazon for £420.00.

The Danish Kroner is stronger than the pound at the moment, which is nice. When I came here 10 years ago, 13kr was £1, not it’s 9.8kr to the pound.
More interesting facts as I get them!
March 9th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
The pound’s rubbish. It’s costing me a frigging fortune.
March 9th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Yes, you should introduce the Euro in the UK.
March 9th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Denmark are standing firm too. They don’t want your filthy currency!
March 9th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
I can’t believe we haven’t. The only reason we didn’t is because politicians here are so terrified of taking the Queen’s head off currency. I love nationalism: it’s better to be worse off than to give in to some ridiculous notion that having “someone else’s” currency makes you less of a nation.
March 9th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
I thought the Queen’s head stayed?
March 9th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
The UK would probably benefit from it seeing that most of the UKs exports go to other EU states.
@morries: Yes they do. (Sort of…)
March 9th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Ah, it does, yes. Figuratively speaking, then. Dropping the pound’s seen as political suicide here.
March 9th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
It could stay. The Dutch have their queen on the coins and the Spanish kings head is there, too if I’m not mistaken.
March 9th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Yeah, they do, definitely. think the problem is just the concept of reliquishing “Britishness”. The pound is seen as integral to what makes Britain Britain. It’s complete nonsense.

Mailed them this morning. I honestly don’t know when it’s going to be announced.
March 10th, 2008 at 9:46 am
Amazon reckon it’ll be £199 for a Premium and £269 for an Elite. They’ve already dropped them to £189 and £259.
Hurrah! The magic £200 barrier is teh broken! \o/
March 10th, 2008 at 9:47 am
Oops - forgot the Arcade. £160 RRP, £150 at Amazon. Wii am undercut!
March 10th, 2008 at 9:52 am
Ta. I’ll do a story on that now.
