PS2 not powerful enough for Disgaea 3, says NIC
March 11th, 2008 @ 15:17

Speaking here, NIS’s Jack Niida has explained that the decision to publish turn-based strategy title Disgaea 3 on PS3 was taken because PS2 couldn’t handle the graphics.
“It’s simply because PS2 lacks the processing power and memory capacity to support Disgaea 3,” he said. “PS2 could not load the same amount of data on to memory and process it like the PS3; therefore, we decided to develop it for the next-gen platform… The character sprites for Disgaea 3 take three-four times the amount of labor to create compared to Disgaea 2.”
Koei doesn’t know if this is going to make it to Europe yet, but we’re holding out for a positive outcome. Fingers crossed.

Even as a big fan, I find this quite difficult to believe!

I hope Koei releases this over here. I’d quite like to try it.

It’s getting a US release, and the PS3 is region free. Sorted, innit?

Is there some hidden part of the conditions to get a PS3 release these days that you have to say it wouldn’t be possible on the PS2 or something?

Who else has said it?

One of the Devil May Cry 4 developers (or producers, not sure which) said it wouldn’t be possible to do the Devil Bringer on the PS2. Which considering it’s basically a hook-shot and that worked fine on the N64 is a bit hard to swallow.
