Take-Two financials: “Major” Rockstar sequel for 2009
March 12th, 2008 @ 09:04
GTA IV, rather obviously, won’t be the end. From Gamasutra:
Asked where Rockstar might be headed now that production of Grand Theft Auto IV was winding down, company execs said that in addition to the Xbox 360 downloadable content expected in both Q4 of this year and in 2009, the company would be releasing “at least one major sequel in 2009,” though no further details were given beyond saying the game would be a “triple A sequel.”
The news is taken from an investor call last night following the release of Take-Two’s Q1 financials.

They don’t actually say it’s a GTA sequel though, do they? Just ‘a sequel’. It could be anything.

But we haven’t even got this one yet!
I find the prospect of annual GTA quite tiring :\

I’ll change it to “Rockstar”. I’m not sure what else it would really mean, though.

Bully sequel, pls. Although the GTA team didn’t actually work on that.

Surely a “content sequel” on the GTA engine along the lines of Vice City would be the most obvious choice?
March 12th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Yeah, that’d make the most sense. I’d hope they couldn’t manage something like that within a year, though.
March 12th, 2008 at 9:29 am
Yeah, that’s true. Although if IV was finished up a few months ago (apparently it was) and the next one came out at the end of 09, that’d give them nearly two years. That said, Vice City was such a major update to GTA III, it’d be difficult to see how they could replicated that in this gen even with that much time.

They weren’t working on DLC at the same time then though, were they?
I’d like to see them do a proper 3D sequel to GTA London, if they’re looking for ideas.
March 12th, 2008 at 9:33 am
That would be so cool.
I bet it’s Table Tennis 2.

I wouldn’t call TT2 triple A though. Still, I’d welcome another game. Thought it was a great budget title.

has there been any news on a Midnight club next gen outing?
/may be confused

Red Dead Revolver was always going to be a trilogy. Or maybe Oni 2. Smuggler’s Run 3! Speculate some more!!
March 12th, 2008 at 9:53 am
@pleasant: Fiscal 09, I think. It’s in the original statement (look on the first Bioshock 2 story)

@amg: You’re such a fucking cynic.
I hoop its Red Dead Revolver!?

I liked smugglers run

I should have done a story on it, really.
Smugglers Run was ace. There you go, AMG

Smuggler’s Run 2 was dope. Those piss-take FMV cutscenes were genius.

It was the only good game at E3 that year everyone showed all their shit PS2 stuff. I’d buy a sequel, anyway.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:03 am
Max Payne..?
March 12th, 2008 at 11:04 am
I’d be very surprised if that isn’t going to happen before 2010.
