Console MMOs to have “massive advantage over PC” says SOE boss
March 17th, 2008 @ 14:09

Speaking here, Sony online entertainment president John Smedley said that consoles are the perfect platform on which to release MMOs.
“I think by having a stable platform where every customer has an online capable box is a huge, huge potential advantage in building an MMO because you’ve already got an online userbase,” he said. “It’s a massive advantage over the PC and we don’t have to worry about graphics cards or things like that.”
When talking of future titles he said, “If you look at The Agency, our DC universe MMO, and even our Free Realms title, we’re doing PS3 versions of all of those games.”

Eh? How many PCs out there AREN’T online-capable? And I’d have thought more PC owners use their computer to go online than console owners do with theirs. Odd.

Yeah, I thought it was rather weird, too.
Also the console online capabilities aren’t exactly a secret.

Well, no shit, Sherlock. You being president of SONY Online Entertainment, and all. There’d be something wrong if you WERE’NT doing PS3 versions.
Where do they get these people from?

I sometimes wonder about the people in the games industry nowadays. They’re starting to sound more and more like a broken record.

Hmmm every pc bought today has a Ethernet port as standard its online capable out of the box.
Mmo’s have yet to even make a dent in the console market they just aren’t that marketable to people that buy consoles. The only MMO I have seen of recent that has the potential to change this is APB for PC and xbox 360.
