GeForce 9800 GX2 confirmed by Nvidia
March 18th, 2008 @ 22:05
Nvidia has finally put all the internet rumours to bed and officially announced, and apparently released, the GeForce 9800 GX2.
The card itself is a monster. How does 256 Stream Processors, a 600 MHz Core Clock, a 1500 MHz Shader Clock, a 1000 MHz Memory Clock, 1G Memory, 512-bit Memory Bandwidth, a 128 GB/sec Memory Interface and 128 (billion/sec) Texture Fill Rate sound?
Tempted? Well, at the time of writing the card is on sale at a few US retailers for over $600 with as of yet no price details for Europe, so only the hardcore need apply.

So is this the one that’s basically the same as two 8800GT cards stuck together?
Actually, the one thing I hope does come out of this is a greater incentive for games designers to program better for multiple graphics cards, as well as dual and quad core processors.

Those figures really are Greek to me. I still want one, though.

Have you seen the power requirements for that thing!? It looks as though a 750W PSU is the absolute minimum!
Scary stuff. I think the 9800GTX will actually be the more interesting card though. It’s also about time nVidia moved to support DX10.1.

Greek, I tell you. Greek. I’m fairly sure that my system wouldn’t come near to coping with that, though.
