“Pipeline strain” to blame for sketchy online Brawl play in US
March 18th, 2008 @ 07:21

Following plenty of complaints of less than reliable server connections in online Super Smash Bros. Brawl games in the US, Nintendo has made a statement saying sheer weight of numbers is putting its system under pressure.
“As with the launch of any online-enabled game, especially one as popular as Super Smash Bros. Brawl, everyone wants to play at once,” said the company. “This puts a strain on the pipeline.”
Nintendo of America confirmed yesterday that the game was the fastest selling in its history, having moved 1.4 million units since it launched on March 9. Buy some bigger servers, Nintendo. Still no date for Europe.

This statement has the same whiff of Nintendo ‘humbly’ apologising for not having suppy to meet demand that they’ve been rolling out since the DS.
Sorry, did I say “humbly”? I meant “smugly”.

Pipeline strain?
Sounds painful. I think you can get a cream for that.

Is there going to be this sort of demand in Europe? I can’t believe there is.

Never seen the attraction of these titles. Nintendo have ignored online gaming long enough - now they actually try it they get a not too surprising wake up call.

Are these 1.4 million units ON TOP of the 800k+ it did in Japan?

It did over 1.5 million in Japan, I think. 800K was day one.
