Steel PS3 for MGS4 bundle in Japan
March 18th, 2008 @ 13:47

Sony’s shown off the limited edition steel PS3 for its Japanese Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle. In all fairness, this does look pretty cool. There’s approximately no chance of this coming out over here, but we can but dream.

That looks nice. Much nicer than the usual ’super-shiny’ black. Bet it doesn’t show fingerprints either.

Ja, looks cool. And cheap.

Looks brilliant. And, assuming that’s a backwards compatible PS3 and a Dualshock 3 in the box, is exactly the sort of bundle that would persuade me to part with my cash.
I suppose on the bright side, at least Sony Europe are making it easy for me to hold on to my money.
March 18th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
Yep, same here. I would actually buy that.

Fucking hell. Thinking of attempting to pursuade the other half now. It’s all over for me.

Given that it’s Japanese, it’s most likely going to be a 40gb model. So not much chance of BC in it. But you would kind of hope they’ll have bundled a DS3 by then. MGS4 uses it, ffs.

Goh! What a clot - the damn link says it’s an 80gb machine! So it probably will have BC.
To make up for that, PS3 Fanboy are claiming that DS3s are ‘confirmed’ for this pack:

Oh, wait. Now I can’t find the “80gb” bit again. Did they add it and then take it out again?

Does anyone know where I can order this without being nailed hard and in the arse for duty?
March 18th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
I think you pretty much get totally rogered for Japanese hardware regardless of who you order it from unless you can persuade someone to go there and bring one back for you.
March 18th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Yep. It needs to be posted by hand with “gift” labels on it or you’ll get stung for import duty. Play-Asia won’t ship PS3s to the UK.

Am cry

I’m not even sure if you could get away with it that way. They weight a ton, so it’d likely be opened at customs. I’ve bought lenses from Hong Kong, etc, and they get through OK, but I’m not sure a huge, really heavy box would pass muster.
March 18th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Stick a handle on it and tell customs it’s your suitcase.
March 18th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Or stick a tail on it, sit on it and pretend it’s a horse.
March 18th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Remember, you can lead a horse to water but you can’t play Metal Gear Solid on it.
March 18th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Not in Europe, anyway. Goddamn Metal Gear-free drinking trough.
I blagged a copy of Disgaea for PSP, btw.
March 18th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
Oh well. It’d all be in Japanese anyways, and I’d only have to buy another MGS4 just to play it properly.
Sigh…
March 18th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Hang on. Using super-sleuth reasoning, if MGS4 uses DS3, and MGS4 is coming out in Europe at the beginning of June, then…
March 18th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
You’d think, wouldn’t you? SCEE seem to have taken a leaf out of Nintendo Europe’s book of late, though.
March 18th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Hmm. If only I knew a slack-mouthed retailer.
March 18th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
Is there any other kind?

We definitely got the best deal. Definitely.
