PC gamers shifting to consoles - id

According to this, id biz dev man Steve Nix said the company is seeing a definite migration of gamers from PC to console.
“I know that I have friends who are considered core gamers, who years ago were just keyboard and mouse guys - now, when a game ships on all platforms, they buy the console version, even though the PC version is sitting there and they have a PC that would run it perfectly well. It’s just their preference,” he said.
Greg Stone, who has been working on Quake Wars at Nerve Software, agreed: “For me, I’m exactly what he’s describing - I’m a guy that used to play on PCs, and now I’m totally console. It’s so much money to keep up with the bleeding edge of technology on the PC, and it really just is easier to take a console and say, well, this is good enough. I think that’s the way it is for me, and for a lot of people at this point in time.”

Not really a stunning revelation.
When I have the choice ill take playing it from the comfort of my sofa on a larger screen with the minimum of hassle over having to sit through installing, patching, configuring and then wondering why the hell it keeps crashing to desktop after the splash screen..
Thats without even touching on the stupid turnover rate of PC Hardware.

Yeah, agree. I do love PC games, though.

Makes sense from a business trend.
But then again, the PS3 and 360 are still relatively new technology. I’m sure that in a year or two, PC gaming will again have moved beyond the consoles in terms of graphical realism and gameplay ideas and PC gamers will be flocking back to update their machines ready for the next big releases from id and Valve, just like they were with Doom 3 and Half-Life 2.

Its not that I dont love PC gaming, my PC gets the majority of gaming time that I have but I really do find it easier to play games on a console.
I dont tend to play much of the modern stuff on my PC anyway, mainly because I dont want to keep up to date with the endless upgrade cycle.
