Confusion reigns on PS3 firmware 2.20 release date
March 24th, 2008 @ 17:22
Teh internets are getting their knickers in a twist on the release date for PS3’s 2.20 firmware update because of this report that says the code will hit alongside the first BD-Live movies in the US on April 8.
The release of the films “coincides with the launch of a new software update for Sony’s PlayStation 3 that makes the game console the first Blu-ray player with Internet connectivity, an ability known as Profile 2.0,” said the Reuters story.
SCEE said last week that 2.20 was “planned for release in late March”. It also said that “movies with BD-Live are scheduled for release next month.” This probably means that the update’s going to come out before the movies and the Reuters story has been taken ridiculously literally, but don’t let us spoil your fun.

It would be terrible if PS3 owners had to wait a week or two more before they update the system…

This is, indeed, daft. I’m sure if they say it’ll happen next week it’ll happen next week. It’s just people taking that Reuters story word for word.
