Microsoft rejects Cave shooters for XBLA

According to this, Microsoft’s turned down Cave’s insane top-down shooters for XBLA in Japan. According to a statement from Cave:

“Our initial plan was to port lots of good arcade titles to XBLA. We talked to IP holders of these titles, and persuaded them. We secured these licenses, and finally talked with Microsoft. There they rejected all of our proposals saying, ‘We are going to cut down faithful arcade ports.’ We felt so frustrated. We wanted to show them that their decision was wrong. So we switched our two most promising projects into retail.”

Cave’s Ketsui and DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou Black Label were supposed to be released on the service in Japan later this year. And now they’re not. So that… sucks.

  1. ah, damn shame. :-(

  2. thats pretty awful. not very objective at all. surely if you gave the public a choice and it paid off (getting sold) then you’d continue rather than a biast opinion of what the select few at the top want.

  3. It’s stupid, in my opinion. Why block professional content from XBLA? You’d have thought they’d be begging for stuff like this.

  4. It’s ‘portfolio management’ mate :-)

  5. :P

  6. I’m sure there’s a genuine reason for Microsoft’s decision that makes good sense to them and their business plans.

I, for one, haven’t a clue as to what that might be. I’d love to know what it is.

  7. Can you imagine playing these on a 360 pad? It’d be a nightmare.

That game look rubbish. It’s not good enough for Xbox 360. Upgrade the graphics and then maybe Microsoft will actually look at it this time…

  9. They are very mental, it’s true.

  10. Interesting they should go down the ‘retail’ route instead, when it’s unlikely that they’ll do very well. There are always two other downloady game services, of course. For other machines, like.
