Xbox 360 “dead” to Australian retailers
April 7th, 2008 @ 05:27
A survey of more than 2,000 Australian retailers has found the country’s game-sellers less than happy with Xbox 360. According to this GameRush report, PS3 and Wii are seen as the main contenders in the Australian console space now, thanks to Blu-ray and family appeal, respectively.
“The Xbox 360 is dead. We are stocking it because of our relationship with Microsoft however all our energy and marketing is going into the PS3 and the Nintendo Wii unless Microsoft come up with something new or additional marketing dollars,” a Melbourne-based retailer said. “Halo 3 was big on the Xbox but that was about it.”
“They have tried discounting and value add offers and even that is not working. We are even thinking of dumping the console all together.”
Oh dear.

dunno about this one, but what do I know.
I think the perception among the “punters” is that the PS3 is the best console out there & the premium pricing helps in that regard.

I can’t see Australia “dropping” 360, somehow. You’re right about the perception of PS3, I think. The pricing definitely makes it an aspirational item.

Check the GameRush article. They updated it, M$ denied the rumor.
Fake!

Er… but they would say that, wouldn’t they? That doesn’t prove that it’s fake because it doesn’t say “actually the Aussie shops didn’t say that”. All it proves is that Microsoft’s automated defence PR has kicked in.

But it’s MS saying it Blerk. Not some guy on the street. Have they any history of covering uncomfortable truths?
Look at how honest and forthcoming they were with the RROD issue. They even made an Aprils fool out of it? (If that ain’t post modern irony then nothing is)

Doesn’t anyone here know smarthouse’s history with MS? =)

Some stories (I don’t know how to link here)
Why the Xbox failed
BR Disc based Xbox coming
Xbox handheld “Confirmed”
Microsoft refuse to answer our questions over RRoD
Halo 3 Cooking Xbox 360s
Peter Moore quits over horrible xbox failure
Microft failing, tries to gag us from reporting the truth
Microsoft is arrogant
They also state as fact that “Microsoft recently switched to BD for its Xbox 360 game consoles after Toshiba announced to discontinue HD DVD” and also that these upcoming blu-ray 360s use 170w PSUs instead of the current 210w PSUs….. Which is odd really, because the old PSU was 203w and the current ones use 175w PSUs. (Don’t worry though, that info came from power supply “industry sources”.)

Not limited to MS idiocy either with stories like the PS4 is coming in 2008 and blasting “Stupid Consumers” for trying to stop the Sony Sharp TV deal.

I get the sense there is some truth to this the MS PR machine jumped into action very quickly.
