GTA IV: first multiplayer playtest
April 8th, 2008 @ 10:51
This Gametap playtest of GTA IV’s multiplayer looks legit. Loads of info there about the various modes. Better read it quick: as far as we’re aware this is the first one published. If someone’s been a bit trigger happy it won’t be there for long.

sounds lovely, especially like the idea of turning off the gubbins so you cant identify ai from players so easily

That sounds really bloody comprehensive. I like the idea of the voice chat being affected by distance and having to call people on the phone to talk if you can’t actually see them.
I’m sure the multiplayer fans will be creaming themselves at that!

The voice chat by distance was done in Halo 2 on the XBox, but I too like the phone call stuff.

It does, indeed, sound great. They should just release it early.

I wonder how the poor old wobbly PSN will cope? Actually, I wonder how poor old Live! is going to cope.
April 8th, 2008 at 11:39 am
Live’ll stand no chance. If it sells 6 million in the first week and everyone has a go online, it’ll be chaos.

I think I can predict what’s likely to be top of the Live playing charts for a lot of this year…
…if it’s working.

Yeah, downtime madness.
However, it does amaze me that people will buy it and go online straight away. If I get it at launch I won’t go near XBL until I’ve fully completed the campaign.

GameTap is bankrolled by Ted Turner, aka Mr CNN, so this is definitely on the level.

Patlike, could you get in contact with Rockstar and ask if they can confirm whether or not GTA IV will support the rumble function in Dual Shock 3?
It seems many on teh internets is asking this very question, but there seems to be no official answer yet.
Considering CoD 4 doesn’t support it I guess it could go either way with GTA IV…
April 8th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Sure thing. I’ll mail them.
April 8th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Cool, thanks. *Crossing fingers*
April 8th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
I’ll be really surprised if it doesn’t.
April 8th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
Yeah, same here. It would be quite strange, but one would think Sony would have boasted about it by now, especially considering the DS3 gets released in the US in a matter of days.
April 8th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
You could look at it the other way around, though - 360 owners get rumble out of the box. PS3 owners need to buy a new controller to get it. Could be seen as a 360 advantage and thereby downplayed by Sony.
I would’ve expected ALL new PS3 games to be supporting rumble by now. Is this not the case?
April 8th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
Yeah, that is one way to look at it.
Sony have created a website containing a list of supported titles here: http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/About/Controller/Controller_games.html
But it is incomplete as Army of Two, AC and UT3 supports it, but does not appear on the list. I think the only high-profile title without it these days are CoD 4, which is pretty unbelievable.
