THQ: “Warcraft has peaked”

THQ executive Jack Sorenson reckons World of Warcraft’s gone over the top, and that other MMOs are about to get a proper look-in on the hyper-lucrative online market.

“However long it takes World of Warcraft to go through its cycle there will always be people on it, probably always be millions of people on it, but does it keep at that peak? And I think that, I wish I could see the numbers, but my guess is that it probably already has peaked - but it’s still a great business,” he told EG. “Who wouldn’t want that?”

Sorenson added, talking of THQ’s upcoming Warhammer 40K MMO: “Blizzard based a lot of their, let’s say, RPG characteristics on 40k, which was the original. There’s a lot of commonality there that just comes right out of what Games Workshop has developed - the fiction, and the rest of it is incredibly deep. I think if we’re true to that and do it at a high quality, then people will come. And they can certainly co-exist.”

  1. Is there any cause and effect between THQ dissing WoW and THQ releasing a competing MMO?

  2. Such terrible cynicism. I’m 100% sure it has nothing to do with it.

  3. Will THQ’s ad campaign feature Leonard Nimoy and Dwight Schultz, do you think? :-)

  4. /played

Time played this character is 20 days.

    o_O

  5. Turn. Off. The. WoW.

  6. But then I’d have to find a new addiction!
