Valkyria Chronicles has optional HD install
April 14th, 2008 @ 20:01
According to PS3.IGN, Sega RPG Valkyria Chronicles has an optional HD install designed to cut down loading times. From the piece:
The install takes up 3,336 MB and apparently cuts down load times from the 15 second waits players would otherwise have to sit through when opting to play directly from disc.
As with last month’s Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan install, this install is strictly optional, so those who can’t find enough space on their hard disk will still be able to play.
The PS3 exclusive will be launching in Europe later this year.

I just plonked a 250gb HDD in my PS3 (which took less time to do than to actually set up the PS3 in the first place) so am going to install everything I can and download everything I can.
As such, any game that offers an install option on PS3 now appears more attractive in my eyes.

Did you install it yourself? Was it really that easy?

Have you not seen any of those replacement videos on YouTube? iirc, you undo a screw, slide the drive out, take it out of a little holder thing, put the new one in the little holder thing, slide it back in, put the screw back, turn on, format, done. Ten minutes.

It’s incredibly easy, just be careful not to strip any of the screws.

What type of HDD is it you need to buy? Can you transfer data from one HDD to the other?

Those little ones that go in laptops. It tells you in the manual exactly which type you need. And iirc, you can just copy all your stuff off your existing drive onto a memory stick or an external HDD or something and then copy it all back afterwards.

right so theoretically I could take out my old HDD, copy it onto my laptop, attach new HDD to laptop, copy, and then whack new HDD into PS3 and start body-popping?

I dunno about that, man. I just (don’t) work here. It’s not like I actually have a PS3 or anything.
