Major UK retailers already sold out of GTA IV

April 16th, 2008 @ 19:51

Several major UK game retailers and supermarkets are already sold out of Grand Theft Auto IV.

Big gaming outlets such as Game.co.uk, HMV and Gameplay are either completely sold out or can no longer guarantee delivery on April 29.

While it seems as though now you’re going to have to take your chances in shops on release day, most major online retailers still have the special edition available.

It also appears that the PS3 version is in higher demand than its rival.

Here’s a list of retailers that no longer can give you the game when you want it:

  1. We should start a sweepstake over how many GTAIV stories will appear on vg247 between tonight and release date.

  2. In the next two weeks, I reckon we’ll do more than 20 per week. I reckon 50 overall.

Demand is higher… or were more of one version provided than the other (would make sense given the install bases). We’ll know in chart week for sure. =)

  4. Bastard chartTrack for not giving numbers out. If MS get the lead they are working for then they might buy and publish them anyway.

    Fingers crossed.

Well… we wont see the exact figures, but in the UK we’ll see which version came higher because we have multiplatform split charts.

  6. I don’t care much about the numbers, but I’m sure it won’t be
the extreme walkover that MS initially hoped for. Might have been if the game got released back in October though.

I only hope that the total sales saves Take Two from the
possible hostile take-over by EA. :)

EA will likely buy Take 2 before the game even releases. /o\

  8. It’ll be interesting to see what happens at Take Two’s annual shareholder meeting this saturday, especially since the EA bid expires on friday. Perhaps they will make a new bid, perhaps not.

  9. The notion that EA bidding for T2 is a bad thing is pure pantomime drama. As has been noted by financial analysts, whilst T2 are hot right now they’ve consistently lost money for three Xmases in a row. No game company has ever performed as badly as that. Looks also at the SEC filings against the activities of the T2 board and the VERY dodgy looking relationship between T2 (President: Straus Zelnick) and Zelnick Media and the MILLIONS of dollars Zelnick Media plan on getting from shares if only that can keep EA at bay - it’s a very unethical and morally questionable state of affairs.

The sort of revenue GTA4 may do could be massive. But I can’t imagine it being put into more irresponsible hands than that of Take 2’s board. An EA acquisition of them - at the generous price EA have offered already - would be a blessing.

EA are white knights compared to the dealings of Take 2. Not that the casual onlookers seem to care - but they should.

  10. Take 2’s problems aren’t affecting the quality of Rockstar’s games. Nobody wants to see GTA become EAified, like all the other soulless shit that they put out.

  11. Surely the 360 version has to sell the most copies. Surely. PS3 victory in this battle does not compute. Unless they also sell a gazillion PS3s off the back of it.

  12. “Pat: I reckon 50 overall.”

    50 sounds excessive. I’ll have 38.

    Wow.. That is awesome!

    I’m glad I’ve pre-ordered mine from Game.co.uk before april 7th…

I ordered it on 3rd March so I’m all good.
