GTA IV expansion will “completely redefine the idea” of DLC, says CVG

April 17th, 2008 @ 12:34

According to PlayThree.net, the CVG GTA special is out and claims that the Xbox 360-only DLC for GTA IV could contain an area as significant as Vice City or San Andreas.

From the magazine:

“Of course, to call games as vastly ambitious as Vice City or San Andreas mere ‘expansion packs’ seems childish, but nevertheless, the downloadable content (DLC) coming for the Xbox 360 version of IV has repositioned those games in just this way. DLC so far has meant the odd new car, jumper of bit of horse armour, but GTA IV is set to completely redefine the idea with expansions that are to GTA IV what Vice City or San Andreas were GTA III. Yes, Rockstar is clearly hinting at new downloadable cities; and the chances of them being London, Vice City or SA again are slim to none. So that’s new as in brand new. GTA IV’s Liberty City is the beginning. Think about that and be excited.”

Blimey. Not long to go now!`

  1. AAAAAAAARRRGGHH!!!!!

  2. It’s almost as if GTA got a new home.

  3. Hmm… from what I’d heard the DLC was going to be nothing like that size… who knows.

At least when it comes to PC it’ll have it all.

  4. “What should be noted is that this special edition magazine has been sponsored by Microsoft. There are advertisements for the Xbox 360 edition of GTA IV (with DLC) as well as other 360 games including Ninja Gaiden II and Lost Odyssey. In this context the comments by CVG sound suspiciously like advertorial - e.g. paid for editorial. If this is the case than CVG really should follow proper journalistic standards and clearly label the piece as such.”

    Good point. :D

  5. I would like the DLC to add more real life comdedians. I want them to really push it in this sector. Imagine supporting small time indie film devs by showcasing their films at the in game cinema. Imagine having a games console at nikos hideout which could play some XNA games or something.

I always thought it would be a good idea for a next gen GTA game to have all the old GTA games stored on an in game console so you could go back and play them whenever you want.

So in other words, whoever wrote it actually has no real information whatsoever?

  7. I’ll be very surprised if the DLC is actually a new area and not just more content within the existing city.

What a cover… “The whole story - 100% unofficial”. Damn right. That there is journalistic garbage, and I’ll believe it when some concrete information about it surfaces, if ever. ;)

  9. Could be skin though?
New clothes and cars, maybe even some refurbed bars.
Hookers chased from Time Square due to zero tolerance. There could be other things of importance.
A new gang, new mayor or chief of police. They swap Koskenkorva for Stolis?
It won’t mattr if they give you a new place to roam.
Either which way GTA has a new home.

  10. Either way GTA has a new HOME. ;)

  11. I hear Sony has a new Home.

  12. You know what’d “completely redefine the idea” of DLC?

DLC that comes in the form of a type-in listing circa 1983 games mags. Entered into your console via an on-screen keyboard.

    DLC - Redefined

That’s a world exclusive. From me to you. GO GO VG247!!

  13. Car armour.
