Microsoft slams GTA IV PS3 install time in PR mail

April 18th, 2008 @ 17:16

Just got this from Microsoft PR:

With the OXM review hitting streets today, and your own preview impressions which are looking great, hopefully you’ll all be a bit wiser as to the ins and outs of GTA IV now.

I’m sure you’ve all seen the chatter from the 1up GTA IV Preview on the PS3 install time….just a few thoughts on what you could do in this time if you were actually playing the 360 version from the moment you insert the disc….

· Steal your first dozen or so cars and test out the improved vehicle handling?

· Check out the cool features on your mobile phone?

· Rack up a 5 Star Wanted Rating?

· Have a blast of your first MP game on Xbox LIVE?

· Ditch the tracksuit chic and buy some new clothes?

· Unlock your first GTA IV Achievement and boost your Gamerscore?

….Or just start downloading a film from Xbox LIVE Video Store to watch later – check out the latest batch of arrivals this weekend!

Oh come on MS… now you’re just clutching at straws.

  4. Christ.. just fuck off, Microsoft. Please.

  5. It makes me think that the PS3 might actually perform better than the 360 version with the amount of fuss they are trying to make about the PS3 version.

  6. i was planning to leave my ps3 version installing and knock one out to some brazilian fart porn, each to their own i guess

  7. This is hilarious!

  8. True, they are a bit of an embarrassment at times. They’re the David Brent of the console industry.

  9. Holy Jesus, what a bunch of childish bastards! This seriously makes me laugh. :D I wonder if their PR people get paid based on their ***hole factor?

But seriously. It has also been reported that the 360 has the same install, only optional. If it’s that unimportant for them, they should have just cut the optional install on the 360…

  10. This comes from the same mindset as when MS had that XBOX 360 boat float past the PS3 London Launch event. Pretty childish.

    Oh well.

  11. So what would you rather do? Play GTAIV on its new home (The Microsft XBox 360) or watch “Installing please wait”?

    Embrace the changes fellas.

    GTA has a new home

I’d spend the 5 mins thinking about how fortunate my PS3 came with a hard-drive as standard.

  13. I can undestand that it must be hard for them to watch their one year head start getting steadily eaten up, but, come on…

  14. Install or not both consoles will play the game just the same. Its really petty to try and make out that your versions better than the other. The developers especially with such high profile game must make sure it works perfectly or 99% close to perfect on each console.

Sony and Microsoft are just as petty as each other its only fan boys that get sucked into there bullshit and lies.

When did the MS PR guys shrug off all pretense at professionalism? I would’ve thought they’d feel comfortable having purchased exclusive DLC; but this makes them look nervous, lashing out and clutching at minor issues. Do they know something we don’t know?

  16. Nice. Now i hate them even more.

They are getting worked up about a 5 minute install when the 360 also has an optional install which most 360 owners will take advantage of if they want to get the max out of their game.

  17. Of course they won’t play the same. Wasn’t the 360 lead platform? If you look at other games where this has been the case the 360 always come out on top.

@wholesale: Why do you hate freedom of choice? Don’t you like making your own decisions? MAybe a move to communist russia would set you straight.

I’m enjoying this version of Tonka. I wonder what he’ll make his next persona do.

  19. Thing is, we don’t even know what the install does do we? I mean, Rockstar haven’t said anything official as to what will be improved by the install?

  20. I have to do it to keep sane in this GTA skinned world. In two weeks time it will be over.

    I might miss it though ;_;

morriss: We don’t know the size, we don’t know if it’s really 5 minutes, we don’t know what it changes, we don’t know how the versions compare to each other and we don’t know what the DLC will have in it.

    We don’t know f’all.

  22. This game needs to come out, NOW.

Not because I want to play, just because I’M SICK OF THIS SHIT. :)

  23. Every GTA story makes me feel slightly weirder about not buying this game.

  24. Is this them getting defensive over the PS3-outselling-360-3-to-1 story that we saw in MCV yesterday?

Hey… is the site broken? I keep refreshing, but there’s no new GTA IV stories appeared yet.

    /refreshes

  26. I dont wanna say this is BS but it´s hard for me to believe that Microsoft would say something like that.

    Why ?

    They haven´t done this before

Only this Site seems to have recieved this PR

  27. The only part of the email I’ve taken off is the PR’s name. It’s real, I promise you :)

  28. If it´s just some guy from MS and not an official PR Statement then it´s a big difference for me

Like i said it`s hard for me to believe that *Microsoft* would write something like that.

  29. It wasn’t a press release. It was an email from Microsoft UK PR. There’s no pretense. It is what it is.

  30. I bet my hat you won’t be able to rack up a 5 star rating in 5 minutes.
This is obviously written by SDF in a bid to slander GTAs new home.

  31. Yeah I think thats more likely, someone trying to make MS look bad with some Fake Email I mean, the fact this is the only site reporting about this doesn´t help either.

  32. Tonka, you are some kind of stupid, huh? Talking trash like a 5 year old fanboy is funny? Boy, please!

    And by the way:
Yeah, GTA has a new home. The old one was PS2 and PSP. The new one is PS3 with HOME

Abdizur: You’re taking all this far too seriously.

  34. Just curious, what question did you ask MS UK PR to
get an answer like that Patlike? Or did they just
send it out on a whim??

  35. They just sent it out, I think.

Oh god the comments have gone to shit already

  38. How can it be nobody else got this ?
    Not even TeamXbox ?
I´m sorry but this news sounds more and more like BS to me.

  39. TeamXbox is based in America. I assume they don’t get emails from Microsoft UK PR.

  40. “So what would you rather do? Play GTAIV on its new home (The Microsft XBox 360) or watch “Installing please wait”?

    Embrace the changes fellas.

    GTA has a new home”
erm… actually mate i would rather have installing please wait… as long as i know it will run smoothly and not burn down my house: http://gamerush.zoomshare.com/files/news/002563_Xbox_360_almost_burns_down_house.htm so in the long run. by GTA experience will be better than yours. Microsoft are getting despirate as seen from the article above.

  41. Yea, teh xb0xbreak-lol

  42. Dear fanboys:

    Piss off.

  43. @kasai
“Install or not both consoles will play the game just the same.”
Well obviously not true otherwise why have an optional install on the 360? It’s got to improve something above a non-install surely?

Insider info says two versions are near identical - but presumably they are comparing two installed versions.

I’ve got the 360 version on pre-order and I will spend the 5 minutes doing the optional install. :)

  44. I doubt it will make much difference, if any. Maybe they’ll be a slight pause as you go over a bridge to another city or something like that but I doubt it will have any impact on gameplay/frame rate.

  45. Then why bother having it as an option on the 360?

  46. So you don’t get those loading times?

  47. Or you can look at it another way - if it did impact gameplay, why make it optional? If the game detects a HDD is present, it should basically do the install as mandatory like the PS3.

  48. That’s reason enough. The only ones who don’t install will either not do it on principle, or they don’t have an HDD. :D

  49. Yeah but it would have to be some significant difference for them to have bothered (hence the question over your “if any”).

Personally yeah it will be playable and still a great game without an install on a 360 core machine, but maybe have more texture pop-in and a couple of brief loading pauses as you cross area boundaries. Wait and see, but its got to be something you would want to bother doing otherwise why the option?

  50. Why not mandatory if a HDD is present? Cos most 360’s have a 20GB HD with only 13GB of that free to start off with. Not much to play with and get mandatory on peoples asses with. The better speed and more importantly seek times of the optical drive on the 360 will make the game acceptable with an install - an install is still preferable though, and if you know everyone will have a slightly reasonable HDD present then you will want them to get the best experience from your game possible on their available hardware.

  51. Well what if a 40GB PS3 owner has filled his/her HDD full of movies, downloads, demos, music and stuff? They’ll just have to delete some it to make room.

Same would apply to 360 owners.

  52. i have a 360 i’m gettin gta4 for my 360 so i sure as hell wont buy a ps3 for gta4 its a multiplatform game not a sysem seller they both have advantages but 360 will eclipse the ps3 version in sales, content and xbox live very vital now a days when purchasing a game for a console. ps3 is lackin the bang for the buck even hideo kojima is not satisfied with the turn out of metal gear 4 wich looked better before on still CG pics and the game sucks online in the betta so who is going to sell me a ps3. no complaints when it comes to making gears of war 2 and it looks better than metal gear 4 kojima should use the unreal engine for his next game maybe he’ll cry less.so therefore i’m not lining up at gamestop for a ps3 just gta4 in its new home sorry fanboys. its all about content, exclusivity and inovation at the end of the day oh we did outsell the ps3 in march ouch. back in the game no more shortages

  53. Hopefully this will be the last multi-platform game that will drive adolescent kids crazy on internet forums. Personally I think GTA IV will mark the all time high in the “fanboy war”.

  54. Psychotext said:

XDamage: You can hope… but I seriously doubt it. =(

  55. Is this the biggest multiplatform release ever?

  56. Psychotext said:

    April 19th, 2008 at 8:18 pm

I can’t think of a bigger one given GTA SA was the best selling game last gen.

  57. Psychotext: Ok, it being the last game that fanboys argue about might be pushing it. ;)
But it’s important to remember that this will probably be THE most popular multi-platform title this console generation. Next will probably be Resident Evil 5 or Fallout, but it’s general popularity doesn’t come close to that of GTA.

I do not doubt for a second that these next few weeks will see the peak of people getting extremely angry if one disrespects the other guy’s console choice this console generation, simply because there are so many people out there now with either console. It would be completely pointless. But ofcourse, some jackasses will probably never stop trolling around. :)

  58. @judono
Hold on, did you say “we”? You are not apart of Microsoft so the sale of 360’s has nothing to do with you. I know this because your grammar is so broken it’s funny. Save your criticism until you play the game. Kojima didn’t criticize the game, he said he wanted it to be bigger. If you are going to be a fanboy, more power to you, but please try to be intelligent when deciding what to say in your posts.

As for my opinion, besides the DLC, I doubt there will be much, if any difference, in the games. I will not be buying it because my friend preordered it and I’ll just borrow it from him after he’s done with it.

@Rhythm: What are you talking about? What is MCV?

Hilarious. Indeed. But it is 100% true.

  60. @Enkeixpress
What is 100% true? Please elaborate.

  61. Man, I’m sorry I missed this one!

  62. It really was a cracker. Best ever.

  63. Yeah baby yeah.
    GTA has a new home!

  64. “Yeah baby yeah.
    GTA has a new home!”

    LOL :D

    Oh, it’s fun.

  65. Epic saying the Wii is rubbish is also a very good one. (also true too! :p)

  66. Rubbish has a new home
