Miyamoto wants Wii Fit to make social changes in the UK

Speaking to the Times, Nintendo dev boss Shigeru Miyamoto has claimed that Wii Fit has made a social impact on families in Japan and wants the same to happen in the UK.

“In Japanese households suddenly new conversations are springing up between fathers and mothers, fathers and daughters, talking about Wii Fit,” he said. “We would love that to happen in Britain.”

The game has now released in the UK and Europe, and - according to that piece - is expected by HMV to be the top-seller this year. We somehow doubt that, but there we are. Whatever, Miyamoto hopes Wii Fit will be the game that finally gets people outside as opposed to, you know, playing games.

“Spending too long, staying in and playing any video game is not good,” he added. “I always tell my children to get out on a sunny day and I, myself, went jogging in Central Park yesterday. But I do my stretching on Wii Fit. They work together.”
