360 Jasper chip to launch in August?
May 8th, 2008 @ 06:32
According to this Xbitlabs story, Microsoft has instructed IBM and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co that it’s to release Xbox 360’s based on the Jasper chipset in August.
Jasper, in a nutshell, consumes less electricity, uses simpler cooling systems and produces less noise than the current Falcon chipset.
This is down as rumour at the moment. More detail through the link.

Couldn’t really be any hotter or noisier though, could it?

It sounds like a jump-jet in a typhoon. I don’t think I’ll ever get over just how loud it actually is.

It is mega-loud. However, it must be said, it’s like living next to a railway line. After a few days you hardly notice it go by anymore. Only if you use your 360 sporadically do you get deafened by it.
In my experience of course.

I feel sorry for those of you stuck with the hoover model 360s. My brother has one and the noise is horrible compared to mine (which still isn’t great, but is a lot better).

So have we solved the melting motherboard socket “challenge” yet?

Rather than trying to complete it, I’m just going to buy a PS3 instead.
