MS Gamer’s Day: First Banjo trailer released!

May 13th, 2008 @ 16:20

Gamevideos just posted the first trailer of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. It gave us goosebumps, which is the only sign we need.

The video shows myriad vehicles, racing, platforming, exploration, construction, Grunty the witch and an updated version of the Banjo theme tune. And Mario, just for fun.

After the link. Thanks, Psychotext.

Lots of vehicles… but platforming too!

Graphics look sweet, gameplay… to be determined

  3. I’ll have that, yep.

  4. And… I’ve still no idea what kind of a game it is. My ‘Diddy Kong Racing’ comparison still appears to be the closest thing I can think of.

Anyway, looks quite nice if a little slow-paced out of the cars. Music and sound effects are hateful. Car builder looks like it’ll take ages to build anything.

  5. Hmm. Land vehicles looked a bit pants movement wise. Flying looked ok. Some screen tearing evident but they have plenty of time to sort that. What was Mario doing in there?

  6. I thought that looked brilliant. Tons of stuff going on.

  7. This game is officially “shit” until I find out whether you can make some sort of huge phallus-shaped vehicle and go on a homicidal rampage in it.

  8. It still doesn’t do it for me. The graphic just don’t work, they have no style or atmosphere. The only good looking part of the trailer was swooping over the water. A lot of the gameplay looks very “PS1″, as in, the handling of the land vehicles.

Nice that the have Mario getting decapitated in there, what with Mario games pissing all over pretty much every Rare game ever. Nice one.

  9. I sniggered at Mario too. It’s probably a plea to Nintendo to buy them back. Microsoft make ‘em work too hard. :-D

  10. One thing - where’s the Newton control stuff? Anyone seen mention of that anywhere yet?

  11. Hmm. This video doesn’t change my opinion of Rare one bit.

  12. If that video gave you goosebumps, I’d hate to see what a good trailer would do. :D

    Rare hate… right on schedule!

  14. I have to admit, it’s doing nothing for me either. I guess you either love RARE or you don’t. It’s nice to see more diverse stuff on the 360, but like all of RARE’s output it just seems charmless and forced and somehow juvenile. Next to something like Ratchet and Clank there’s really no comparison, and I don’t even much like Ratchet either.

  15. Actually I’m going to give Viva Pinata a ‘get out of RARE free’ card on the charm front - I actually really like that. My guess is that RARE didn’t do the character design. :-D

I don’t care one way or another for Rare… but this an VP2 have got me stoked.

On the trailer, that Mario was a vehicle. =)

  17. OK Peej, you build a phallic rocket. I’ll build a bi-dirigible, or ‘zeps’ if you prefer, with a trough below. Then we’ll invent a game whereby you have to ground me by filling my trough with your mounted water cannon.

Do you think that might violate the XBL acceptable use policies?

  18. You filthy hoebag, that’s saucy enough to just work :)

Looked like there was a load of getting shot from behind with no way of telling when and where said attacks are coming from.

    That should be fun.

  21. Yeah. I think everyone’s right, it looks shit.

    I now hate it.

It was more in general to be honest. It’s like everyone on the net had their posts ready to go as soon as the embargo ended.

Still… screw you all as long as I enjoy it! \o/

  26. 1 in 20 people enjoying a RARE game… seems about par for the course, no? :-D

ive not played any of the previous banjo games (though i have them on N64 emulation so will play them at some point) so i dont know but were they all about vehicles? this is my problem with the trailer. it looked like a bloody racer which…didnt really look that fun. barely any platforming shown :(
not that it matters i guess as i wont be getting a 360 but for 10years down the line when someones sorted some emulation for it im kind of hoping it will be a decent platformer.
