So you can either drive or fly through the levels and completely decide in what kind of craft or vehicle you do it in, but in no way is this game similar at all to LBP?
I must’ve not been watching the LBP videos properly. If Rare also gave you a level designer it’d be the same game would it not?
May 13th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
God damn it, now all my comments are in the wrong thread.

# Blerk: Yikes! I’m getting Rogue Galaxy workshop flashbacks!
# Blerk: I wonder if you can fly to those islands and cogs in the background or if that’s all just ‘backdrop’?
May 13th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
morriss: LBP is a side scrolling platformer with no vehicles. I’m still not seeing the comparison.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
I’m fucking pumped. That’s going to be awesome.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
LBP does have vehicles. You can build them yourself out of the same stuff that you build the levels from. I’m not sure whether they have motors or not though.
I guess the main difference in the construction sets is there - in LBP you build the entire game, not just your way of getting around.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Blerk: Yep.
I’m not saying it’s identical, but very similar in essence.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
LBP vehicles are literally just moving scenery though. I believe you can set them to move at different rates. You can’t control them in any way.
There is a jet pack somewhere in the game if I recall correctly.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
It’s looking fairly nice, but nothing special yet. And again, it is NOTHING like LBP.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Anyway, Banjo looks the nuts up until now without getting overhyped and making sure we criticise it as no game is perfect although allowing ourselves to be quietly excite but not too excited in case it’s crap.
Is that right, Blerk?

*squints*
Guns?
May 13th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Zumi: I get the impression you’re never going to like this game. :p
Pat: I think so… certainly they have a squirt cannon.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
I probably will. I don’t think the screenshots are bad, not at all. It looks fine, but I really can’t see anything there to be excited about yet.

I’m interested to hear how all this stuff hangs together. So far we’ve learned it’s a racing platformer construction set which isn’t a racer, featuring a curiously rectangular bear and his N64 cronies. Are we still expecting this to be an ‘adventure’ like the original? It’s not sounding much like it at the minute, tbh. There’s a distinct smell of mini games around here.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Blerk: You’re harshing my buzz!
May 13th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
PT: There’s an “ammo” option on that shot. And “weapons”.
Blerk: I keep categorising it as “adventure” because I honestly don’t know what it is. I think it’ll depend on how much emphasis is placed on the vehicles, and right now that’s looking like “a lot”.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
It’s a multiplayer-focussed party game, isn’t it? Eh? Eh? I’m right, aren’t I?

The Danish article mentions missiles and stuff.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
It’s sounding a bit like Diddy Kong Racing with a vehicle building kit, actually. That wasn’t ‘just’ racing, was it? I seem to recall collecting eggs n’ stuff.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
See, that makes me twitch a bit. I want exploration and 3D puzzling. The first Banjo was such a lovely game. I can remember quite a lot about it even now. “Shooting” makes me do a squiggly face.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Puzzles were also mentioned, I think.
Anyway, look. 1 hour and 15 mins before the splurge of news and we should hopefully know everything.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
But enough about your sex life, Pat.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Jesus
May 13th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Didn’t they already confirm that it was an adventure/platform game as well? I’m sure I read that yesterday.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Yeah, I think George Rare said it in one of the quotes he gave out.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
1 hour and 8 mins
May 13th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Heh. I just noticed the petrol gauge in the lower left corner of those shots.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
PETROL?! How ridiculous!
Remember kids, the heavier the vehicle, the more petrol it uses.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
I wonder if someone will steal your car if you run out of fuel in a bad neighbourhood…
May 13th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
And if you run out of petrol miles away from home, do you have to walk back?
*frets*
May 13th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
1 hour? I thought the news was coming from California? Which would make 5pm at 11pm for us?
May 13th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
You can change vehicles on the fly, I think.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
It’s 8am California, I think. They’re normally eight hours behind, but we’re on daylight saving at the moment.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
Zumi: 9 am California time.
May 13th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
There you are, then.
May 13th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
DAMMIT!
8 or 9…whatever
May 13th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
I’m going to guess that some of the ‘puzzle’ aspects are going to be that you need to build vehicles that can accomplish a specific task…
So it’s an engineering game.
May 13th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
I’d say that was a fairly safe bet
May 13th, 2008 at 4:18 pm

That looks well awesome, I have waiting ages for a platformer for Xbox 360. I can’t wait to play it!
