April NPD: Wii dominates hardware sales, 360 beats PS3
May 16th, 2008 @ 06:30
Well, if that’s all 360 can manage after such massive sales of GTA IV last month, we get the sneaking suspicion summer may not be so pretty for Microsoft. Xbox 360 just outsold PS3 in April in the US, moving 188,000 units compared to PS3’s 187,100.
Wii and DS lorded over it all, destroying the competition with 714,200 and 414,800 sales respectively. It’s almost embarrassing. Dull list:
- Wii - 714.2K
- Nintendo DS - 414.8K
- PSP - 192.7K
- Xbox 360 - 188.0K
- PlayStation 3 - 187.1K
- PlayStation 2 - 124.4K

Why’ve you got PS3 at 4 and 360 at 5? Shouldn’t it be the other way around?
Anyway… what happened to the GTA hardware bump? Sales on both 360 and PS3 hardware were *down* by over 50,000 units!

Looks like the negative media coverage might have had an impact, with ‘mommy’ not wanting ‘little Johnny’ to have one of the evil consoles.

Blerk: April was a 4 week month vs March which was a 5 week month. Sales were still down on a weekly basis for the PS3 and 360 though.
March
PS3: 51,400 / Week
360: 52,400 / Week
April
PS3: 46,750 / Week
360: 47,000 / Week

This is not the sales boost you’re looking for.
