Gunmetal PS3 pre-order goes hilariously wrong
May 20th, 2008 @ 06:29
According to this Kotaku piece, not a single person has been able to pre-order a gunmetal limited edition PS3 in the US, with the official site for the machine blanking out when it was made available last night.
There’s also mention there of a mandatory $500 “insurance” charge, which has now been dropped.
Konami: doing the internet right. You’d have thought the disaster that was the MGO Beta launch would have been enough to make someone buy some new servers, or something. Or, you know, be ready for a lot of people trying to do something at once. Something like that.

This story’s just depressing. I mean, yeah, it’s great there’s so much demand, but…

I’d have loved to get the gunmetal version in the UK. But at $600 and with no backwards compatibility it was very easy for me to quickly lose interest.
Who knows what they’d have ended up trying to charge in the UK for it.
