Ninja Gaiden Sigma “no good”, says Itagaki
May 21st, 2008 @ 18:50
Team Ninja Tomonobu Itagaki has said that Ninja Gaiden Sigma was “no good” when asked in an interview with CVG why he wouldn’t sign copies of the game.
“All you need to do is play Ninja Gaiden II and then try and play Sigma afterwards and you’ll see why,” he said.
“Despite the fact that it’s on a ‘next-generation’ console there’s no evolution whatsoever. That was made not by me, but one of my sub-ordinates who basically tried to copy the success of Ninja Gaiden.”
Ninja Gaiden II is released in about two weeks. Doesn’t time fly by?

I wonder if it’s lost in translation or if he’s that angry?

Fair play to the guy. A lot of people take chunks out of other people’s games as to why their new opus is better. He’s taking a chunk out of his last one. Gotta give the man some credit.
And calling out the version on competing hardware to incite some system wars too?
Double props.
This guy knows how to play the game!

Sigma was what is was — a slightly improved port of Black. He might be able to criticise it for a lack of innovation, but to slag off the game itself is essentially to belittle his own creation.
