According to this Kotaku piece, Wii’s American software and hardware sales for the first 18 months of its life have been the highest of any platform in history, Nintendo said today.
Speaking at the Electronic Gaming Summit in the US, NoA marketing head Cammie Dunaway said, “While we appreciate the impact the Playstation 2 had on sales and the industry, perhaps we are even more impactful.”
And here are the figures to prove it:
Software
- Wii - 50 million
- 360 - 28 million
- PS3 - 20 million
- PS2 - 42 million
Hardware
- Wii - 9.5 million
-
360 - 5.2 million
- PS3 - 4.2 million
- PS2 - 8.5 million
Like, blimey.

Mmm… Wii Play. (I wonder if they found a way to sneak Wii Sports in there too!)
Excellent hardware figures though.

Is “impactful” even a word? Firefox spell checker says no!
