Oddworld Inhabitants never shut down. Lorne Lanning is still with the company, he's the driving force behind this new project. They left the gaming industry after EA failed to promote the Xbox-only Stranger's Wrath. They closed their games development team and diverted attention to creating movies, of which we've seen nothing of yet. The "we're not making games anymore" announcement was more of a knee jerk reaction to the commercial failure of their last game, and in 2006 they announced that they were returning to games, and their ideas were in the planning stages. I believe their current business focus is game/movie cross IP's.

The statement that Braun made yesterday that the game would feature "cinematic quality on a '1 to 1 scale' to that of computer-generated motion pictures" was as much of a hint towards their current plans than just a simple comparison. I believe they are trying to create a game that looks as good as the CGI movie that will coincide with it.
