First Ninja Gaiden II reviews published, gets 9-ish

And the verdict appears to be, “It’s really good, but it won’t change the world.” We’re going to buy it anayway. Here’s what’s out there so far. You probably “get it” from this lot.

I’ll read the Games Radar review when I get the time. Wonder why it’s scored much ‘lower’ than everyone else.

Quoted this from EG. Shows how two reviewers playing the same game can have different experiences:
Gamesradar: “But, really, if you hated the cheap-ass bosses and staggeringly tough mob mechanics the last time around, it hasn’t gotten any better this time. If anything, it’s actually gotten worse.”
IGN: “Most of the bosses have had the “cheese” factor turned down a notch. There’s nothing as unforgiving as Alma was the first time you met that witch in Ninja Gaiden”

Occasionally touted as a big title but even with very good reviews I can’t see this selling loads. Thought the core gameplay mechanics were too niche to sell by the bucket load. Might just be personal preference coming in though - are lots of people looking forward to this?

Yep.

DD - I’m really not sure it’s been messaged properly outside the core market, if I’m being honest. I’ll be interested to see if there’s a “bang” of marketing next week for it, but in terms of “mass” advertising I’ve seen nothing. I can’t help feel they just said, “It’s a core game, advertise it to core.” Can’t see it setting the world on fire in terms of sales.

How many copies did NG and NG:B sell? Surely everyone who bought those is going to buy no.2?

In this case I’d say the less people who bought the original (then hastily traded it in after turning the air blue and chucking their controllers across the room one too many times) the better the sequel’s prospects!

I’m going to get it, definitely, and I don’t think I actually bought the originals. Actually, maybe I won’t. So much to play, and I don’t like that 7. Maybe wait for a price drop.

EG review of 8 or above and I’m completely sold on this. =D

I’ll get it day one, I think.

Going to try to blag it this week. I am quite excited about it, if I’m being honest.

Cheap ass bosses?

I don’t recall any of those in NG1. Unless you stuck in on the highest difficulty.

The only ass-related thing I can recall from NG1 bosses, was my own ass handed back to me over and over again by them
Can’t wait for NG2

There was nothing cheap about the bosses in the first one. You either knew how to play the game, and beat them… or you got your arse handed to you when you tried to mash the buttons.

No sale for me. I’ll wait for NG2: Black to fix the issues.

It seems different people are having different experiences. Gamesradar and IGN seem to be miles apart, for instance on the ‘toughness’. The fact that there’s eye-candy galore and the fact that it seems large portions of the game are ‘perfect’ and also the PoP platforming make this a sale.
This and MGS4 should complement each other well.

Just added EG’s score. That’s me out, I’m afraid.

And there’s CVG’s.

I was wanting to see how this would review before deciding between waiting for it or getting Lost Odyssey. The EG review has put me fairly far into the RPG camp. Shit camera + rocket launcher spam does not a good combination make.
