Gamersyde’s posted a very good quality version of the Beyond Good & Evil trailer just seen in the Ubidays 2008 press conference in Paris.

Take a look.

    OMFG.

I use that rarely and only when its called for.

  2. 360 and PS3?! WHOO! \o/

    /was expecting ‘Wii’

  3. However…. where have the super-stylised graphics gone? I loved them! I’m not sure “realistic” is really the way to go with this one. I was expecting it to look more like Prince of Persia. :-/

You can’t really super-stylise a desert. The car looks like its been lifted straight from the first game though. As does Pey’j. Only with a huge shot of detail.

  5. In Ancel I trust. (for now)

I couldn’t believe it, as soon as the trailer started, I said ‘BGaE’ just as a kind of wishful thinking joke. Then it actually was it.

Something to look forward to, I reckon.

  6. Shit, yeah. Count me in. Providing they don’t balls it up. I *will* kill them all if they balls it up. Twice.

  7. For once, I completely share your over-sceptical sentiments! They really, really “can’t” muck this one up.

For once, it’s made me think that the games industry has actually listened. I don’t want that illusion shattered.

  8. See, told ya!

  9. I do think it’s easy to forget, chaps, that the reason it’s taken so long for a sequel to come around is that the original sold so little it took Ubi’s breath away. They had a very troubled year with this and the Prince of Persia reboot, because they basically did nothing. Clancy literally saved the company.

I just hope that even though the internet’s squealing, the reality is that the huge majority of people simply don’t give the first fuck about a digital pig. Because they didn’t last time.

  10. Give me digital pig over a digital Clancy any day of the week! :-)

  11. Well, yeah. But honestly, the first one really bombed. It was a big gamble for them and it just didn’t work.

  12. Partly due to Ubi themselves, of course. Releasing something like BG&E during the Christmas rush on half of the platforms they’d actually developed it for and not really bothering with any advertising can’t have helped.

For a game which sold like shit, it doesn’t half have a rabid internet following. I’m wondering how all those people have actually managed to play it if all the copies ended up buried in the desert? :-)

Regardless, it can’t have been *that* much of a disaster for them if they’re considering a sequel. Unless they’re doing it purely because they’re worried about Clancy overload sending people elsewhere. I know my Ubi faith is pretty shaken - back in the Sands of Time / BG&E days they were one of my favourite publishers. Now I can’t remember the last Ubi title I bought - probably the last PoP.

  13. Even if it sold 10, 20,000 copies, it’s just a blip. Honestly, Ubi was left shaken after it. I reckon the only reason there’s a second game at all is because Ancel refused to let it lie. It really was a disaster for them commercially. Hence the fact that no one’s seen hide nor hair of anything to do with it for five years :)

T-shirt in the post today. Promise.

    *drowns*

  14. lol!

  15. *fingers fall off*

  16. It’s weird that the original didn’t sell that well - but I distinctly remember it hitting around the same time as the POPSOT, and picking both up when their prices were slashed to next to bugger all in January after their releases.

Such a shame to think there are still people out there that haven’t played the original. Ubisoft ought to get the original out on PSN / XBLM download to regenerate a bit of interest in this.

  17. I did the same thing - grabbed PoP and BG&E in the first week of January at £14.99 each. Shameful really, considering the amount of entertainment they provided.
