360 gets 47% hardware boost in run-up to GTA IV and beyond

According to the EG report we brought to your attention earlier, 360 hardware sales have risen 47 percent in the four weeks before and after the launch of GTA IV in the UK.

“Comparing sales of both consoles for the four weeks prior to GTA IV’s launch to the four weeks since its launch, hardware units have risen on 360 by 47 percent, compared to just eight percent on PS3,” says the report.

  8. Bit of a rubbish comparison from a statistical perspective. If you work it all out what it means is that over the 8 weeks surrounding the GTA launch the PS3 and 360 sold roughly equal amounts with the 360 ahead by about 3%.

    It’s really only any good in terms of seeing post GTA launch console demand. There are too many other factors pre GTA (like the 360 price drop and GT5:P on the PS3) to draw any meaningful conclusions.
