Saints Row 2 slips to October
May 29th, 2008 @ 08:55

Never saw this coming. According to various reports this morning, THQ’s Saints Row 2 has now slipped from its proposed August release date to October 15.
Apparently “product quality” is a key driver in pushing the game back. That and the fact GTA IV’s still selling gangbusters, probably.

Oof. Say, why not just slip it to next year like Prototype - that way people might’ve forgotten GTA IV by then.

I’m wondering how many of these ’slips’ are due to “holy mother of God look what Rockstar did we’re fucking dooooooomed!”.

I’d say that has quite a lot to do with it

I think it’s a daft time to slip it to though - it’ll get caught up in the usual end-of-year clusterfuck release-o-thon.
…and be destined to become bargain bin fodder by January, if not before.
I’m waiting for the first “special person” to come out with a pearl like “WTF, this is MILES better than GTA IV” after the game hits shelves. You just know there’ll be one (or two)

They’re a ’special breed’.

Really? REALLY? Did you play Saints Row? GTA4 is a great game but they really have took out a hell of a lot of the game and took it ‘back to basics’ too much. Once you play the story, there really isn’t that much incentive to carry on playing.
I enjoyed Saints Row and looking forward to this. It is very different to GTA and does a lot of things different. The on foot controls/shooting Saints Row is STILL better than GTA4, a feature rockstar have never been able to get right.
Sorry, don’t mean to sound so protective its just Saints Row gets a lot of GTA clone comments from a lot of people who didn’t even play it but it’s a very good, very different enjoyable game and I’m sure the second one will be too.

It could merely be that August is a really bad time to be releasing games, after all, an extra three months isn’t going to make a huge difference to devlopemnt is it?

SR is a good game, tons of things to do and some nice touches but the tearing was awful, the radio stations terrible and the MP very forgettable. I’m still looking forward to the sequel though, despite that awful trailer from a little while ago rather than because of it, plus the campaign being totally co-op playable is rather good.
