UK MGS4 reviews were written from code supplied at two-day Paris event
June 2nd, 2008 @ 14:37

Following speculation this morning that Britain’s Metal Gear Solid 4 reviews were written from incomplete code, videogaming247 has learnt that UK press reviewed the game at a two-day event in Paris at the end of April.
“Eurogamer reviewed from the same code as IGN UK and the official PS3 magazines,” Eurogamer editor Tom Bramwell told us this afternoon.
Konami UK confirmed the game’s reviewing conditions, the rep telling us he couldn’t see any difference between the code played in Paris and the game in the boxed copy he had on his desk.
“The Paris event was specifically engineered by Kojima Productions to allow key press to see the game and coincide their reviews with its launch,” the spokesperson added.
Eurogamer’s review attracted much attention after the site gave MGS4 8/10, the piece going live on the same day as IGN UK’s 9.9/10.
British magazine Edge also gave the game 8/10, the review being written from the same event as IGN and Eurogamer’s.
Both American and British Official PlayStation Magazines have awarded the game 10/10.

Let me be quite frank:
Who gives a damn about what magazines, or other people give games? The day I let some organisation’s opinion of a game sway me is the day I give up video games. Anyone who owns or has played all the Metal Gear Solid games will get MGS4 regardless, so why bother wasting time on what reviewers say?
I know you might think you have to… but you really don’t!

I guess that solves the whole “why no mention of MGO” thing, then. I bet the review code supplied didn’t actually include it.

No it doesn’t, Blerk. It doesn’t exaplain the fact that the word ‘MGO’ wasn’t featured in any review to date.

I wonder if they’re all going to do separate MGO reviews? They’ll have to, surely?

The version of MGO included with MGS4 is basically a glorified demo, is it not? A bare-bones ’starter pack’?
You’re probably right though, morriss - it sounds like they’ve been asked not to mention it. Perhaps Tom could clear that up as well while you’ve got his attention, Pat?

I thought it was the full banana?

There’s a lot of confusion over it. Initially it was going to be a standalone game but it would appear they gave up on that idea.

Further investigation seems to suggest that it’s a five-map ’starter pack’ which you can extend with paid downloads, and that a full version with lots more content will be released sometime in the future.

One sees. I’ll ask Konami for some details on it.

That’s been my understanding from day one; bare-bones playable version with MGS and lots of paid downloads.

MGO by the by, I can safely say I’m not going to buy a PS3 to play this. I’ve made my mind up now.
