Deus Ex is now available for free play from GameTap.
The RPG comes as a hilariously small 151Mb download. It’ll be interesting to see how well it’s held up, to be honest.

I re-installed it a couple of months ago, it looks pretty rough now. It looked so bad I couldn’t play it, I did the training and first mission and couldn’t stand to look at it any more.

It is very… gray. Was it not brown enough for you, that seems to be the in thing for shooters.

I could never get into Deus Ex. Too much talking and boring stuff to read (and I actually like Metal Gear Solid cutscenes, so it must’ve been bad!), and the stealth bits were horrible. Just didn’t grip me at all and I gave up after about 3 hours of the main game.
That said, so many people rate it that I probably should go back to it and try again. Does it work on Vista?

Pft. And people say JRPGs are wordy. Deus Ex had verbal diarrhoea. Reams and reams and reams of sub-Matrix bollocks to trawl through. And for all the “it’s an RPG, you can do it however you want!” business, it all boiled down to shooting people in the end.
Maybe not ‘crap’ but certainly stupidly over-rated.

Deus Ex was and is a fantastic game, anyone who doesn’t think so obviously hasn’t played it too much and the amount of scope it gave you to do you tasks really hasn’t been bettered since.
The reveal of Majestic 12’s HQ was a real eye opener too.
