Call of Duty 5 will be revealed in “mid-to-late” June

Videogaming247 has learned that Activision is about to reveal Call of Duty 5.

The game’s first media release will take place within two weeks.

“The reveal’s scheduled for mid-to-late June,” said a source. We weren’t told what the first look would consist of, although details and screens are a safe bet.

Call of Duty 5 is being developed by Treyarch, not Infinity Ward, the creating studio behind shooter meta-smash Call of Duty 4.

The game is believed to be set back in World War II, not in CoD4’s contemporary theatre.

We contacted Activision for comment this morning but they hadn’t replied at the time of writing.

  1. I’m happy to go back to the trenches if it’s as good as CoD4. I’m willing to believe at this early stage.

  2. I can’t see how it can be “bad”. Given how important that franchise is now there’s 0% chance they’d take a risk.

  3. Whoah wait, WWII again? What happened to the “all new theatre” Activision were crowing about?

WWII CODs SUCK. I can’t stand the thought of going back to old bolt-action weapons and that kind of gameplay.

  4. Pacific, I reckon.

  5. Ask any COD4 fan, and just about every single one of them will tell you that they’re not looking forward to this release.

It’s being developed by Treyarch, who according to most fans of the series, managed to totally mess up COD3. On top of that, they’ve even managed to apparently leave all of the modern weapons that everyone has been having such a good time with in COD4 and replace them with the same old WWII set that we’ve all seen so many times before.

No red dot scopes… no silencers…none of the cool stuff that makes COD4 MP the most played game on Xbox LIVE.

No COD4 fans want this game, because it’s seen as a backwards step just so that Activision can get 1 release of the franchise out per year. Everyone’s waiting for the next IW developed game, for obvious reasons.

  6. Well, if it’s in WWII it’s WWII weapons, I guess. There’s not a huge amount they can do about it. If they have gone Pacific, though, the War there was completely different to the European theatre, so there’s a chance to do something we haven’t seen before. Medal of Honor managed to completely screw up with its Asian game, so there’s hope yet, I reckon.

  7. Preparing to file this under my poop hat tbh. Treyarch and WWII? Zzzzzz.

  8. WW2 has been done to death game wise, it holds no interest for me, and would be a massive step back for the franchise IMO.

  9. We get to shoot Leo in COD5? Well why didn’t you say so!

Pat wins, It’s called Call of Duty: World at War, It is indeed set in the pacific, and it looks rather nice! Subs copy of gamesTM just arrived, they have the exclusive.

  11. If you ask me, Activision should just change this title to being the next Soldier of Fortune game or something, and just leave the COD series to IW.

  12. Chris: Cheers, done a story. Can you tell me which platforms it’s on, please? Is there a release date in there?

  13. LOL.

I thought everyone knew that it was set in the Pacific??

This info was out months and months ago… Just check the charlieoscardelta message boards.

Right, apparently it’s going to be grittier, as gritty as ANY game out there to quote. The enemy will be scarier and use new tactics. Ther will be co-op for the first time in a call of duty, also there will be vehicles and squad based elements to the multiplayer.

  16. Co-op! Nice one. We’ll have to get on it, chris!

Formats: PC, PS3, 360 and Wii, the Wii version is being worked on by a seperate team withing Treyarch, he reckons it’ll be a much closer comparison between the next gen and Wii versions than any other Wii game on the market.

Jeez, they have the CoD4 engine running on the Wii apparently. they are using the engine of 4 for all the next gen ones too. The Wii zapper will be supported.

  24. You’re done when I say you’re done! :p

Anything else sexy in the mag, mate? Apart from the dude holding it of course!

    /smooches

  25. chris: Super hero. Many, many thanks for that. Just done another piece.

yeah, the mag is good this month, bits on fallout 3, lego batman, prince of persia. I’ve done the usual scores thread over on EG.

also, this is how gritty it is (Cod5, not the mag) ‘The opening scene of the first level we are shown is a Japanese commander stubbing a cigarette out in the eye of a prisoner before slitting his throat - the blood splatters and dribbles down the side of the tent you are being held in. He turns towards you to deal out the same treatment but help arrives just in time. Cue a daring level-long escape’

    Sounds good to me!
