Pachter: 360 outsold PS3 in the US in May
June 9th, 2008 @ 13:16
Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter just issued a research note saying he expects that Xbox 360 outsold PS3 in the US last month.
“We estimate sell-through of 750,000 Wii, 250,000 Xbox 360 and 225,000 PS3 consoles. For purposes of comparison, The simExchange prediction market forecasts 744,000 Wii, 216,000 Xbox 360 and 228,000 PS3 consoles sold, while VGChartz forecasts 645,327 Wii, 191,992 Xbox 360 and 177,989 PS3 consoles sold.
“Our console sell-through forecasts reflect our belief that supplies for Wii hardware were steady this month, and our belief that Xbox 360 and PS3 hardware sales grew early in the month due to higher attach rates to GTA IV.”
Pachter’s comments come ahead of this week’s May NPD data.

Wait! Pachter consults VGChartz? Suddenly this is all making a lot more sense.

DOest that put the Wii ahead of the 360?

Tonka: If those figures are right it will be one more month.

…and they’re up, and he’s wrong again:
WII: 675.1K
NDS: 452.6K
PS3: 208.7K
360: 186.6K
PSP: 182.3K

Edit: Too slow. Those Wii numbers are insane.

Spiral: They’re actually lower than most expected for the month. I guess they ran out again.

The 360 is really starting to struggle. Not absolutely, but relatively. There’s a piece in this week’s MCV going on about how the 360 is really not doing as well as hoped. It’s only 18% above the original Xbox sales at the same time in its life. Mind you, the people doing the analysis believe the PS3 will struggle to get even 50% of the sales by 2012 that the PS2 has to date. The Wii is wearing a laurel wreath.

I cannot fathom those Wii sales. They are utterly fucking mental.
And I love the Wii! I have two of the buggers, so I’m playing my part.
But I really can’t understand how it’s SO stupidly popular, I just can’t see what it’s done to gain this bizarre popularity.

Baaa!

All the numbers are lower than predicted. Really surprising for the GTA and Wii Fit month. Ironically it appears even Nintendo can’t fight sunshine.

Truk: 360’s problem in the US is that it’s dropped $50 (£25) in price since launch… and is only $50 (£25) cheaper than the PS3.

I think the US “only” get about 700 000 a month. Anyone still believe Nintendo are stockpiling them?

@Psychotext. I wonder how much has the 360 dropped if you take the weaker dollar into account? Maybe they have gotten as much discount as the rest of the world. Only theirs is being eaten up by the Bush administrations war on terror.
