MGS4 has minimal impact on UK PS3 sales, says Chart-Track

June 17th, 2008 @ 15:25

GI’s reporting that MGS4 has had a mere 7 percent impact on PS3 sales in the past week, despite a massive increase in hardware moved in Japan.

“There’s not a lot to say about it – it had minimal impact really. Units were up by 7 percent,” said Chart-Track boss Dorian Bloch.

And that’s that. More through the link.

  1. MGS is a gamers game, people who were going to buy a PS3 because of MGS4 bought their console a long time ago.

  2. Nintendo fucking piss me off. All they do is release a new colour of a console, and people lap it up.

“Sales are down a little, sir”

“Do we have a green DS yet?”

    “No”

    “Make it so”

    Consumer: “OMGOMGOMG BUY BUY BUY”

I hate you all, you are idiots.

Well… If Sony had released the gunmetal bundle, the DS3 bundle or a bundle with BC then it would have been +1 sale from me.

I doubt it makes any difference in the long run. Europe will always be their whipping boy because we take it so willingly.

MGS4 also being on Xbox 360 would make one hell of a difference for sales.

  5. And for number of discs pressed. :D

  6. Lol :D When hell freezes over maybe. ;)

Anyways, it’s amazing that Sony are still selling
the sixaxis to uninformed europeans. Stop trying to sell off the old stuff before introducing the new!

  7. Yeah - everywhere else in the world tempted new users in with new packs, revised hardware, funky stuff. SCEE couldn’t even be bothered to launch the rumbling controller. A well deserved slap, I think.

  8. @XDamage

They’re just using Europe to sell off their old stock to. SCEE are fucking useless.

Maybe it’s a little bit of shadenfreude, but I’m actually quite pleased to see some tiny semblence of sense coming from European gamers.

All Sony did to promote MGS4 was stick it in their ages old “40GB and a Sixaxis plus a game” bundle - something that most retailers were doing off their own backs anyway.

The US got an 80GB and a Dualshock 3 bundle; the Japanese got their gunmetal grey limited edition, and Europe got fuck all (again).

MGS4 deserves to sell well, but the only thing that will really shift more hardware is a price cut or a new hardware offering.

If GTA and MGS can’t sell consoles, it says to me that the consoles are basically too expensive. Price is driving sales, not hardcore software titles. It seems to be a different story when price-cuts come into play based on previous ChartTrack statements.

  11. ecu: That’s just the same rant as usual. Nintendo is just responding to the market’s demand, and thus they’re even making *profit* (ask MS and Sony about that!).

Besides, they’re doing a lot for “gaming” as such. If it wasn’t for Wii and DS, we’d still only see “Omfg GTA killa game wtf” articles in the media.

  12. Meh, I don’t really hate Nintendo. It just annoys me that they can throw out a different coloured DS, and people lap it up.

It reminds me of the Malibu Stacy episode of the Simpsons, where Lisa makes a doll, and on release day, Malibu Stacy releases a “new” doll, which is basically the exact same as the old one, but with a different hat. And everyone buys it.

It’s people you hate. It always has been.

  14. Yeah. Damn them all to hell!

Although, being Nintendo fans, they’re already half way there. ;)
