Rumour: Heavenly Sword 2 canned
June 17th, 2008 @ 15:44
According to this Kotaku rumour, Heavenly Sword 2’s been canned after an emergency meeting at Sony Cambridge.
More through the link, including stuff about Ninja Theory and “bitterness”.

Heh heh - beat you by two minutes.
I doubt anyone will care too much about no more Heavenly Sword, tbh.

I thought this was cancelled ages ago. I know NT moved on to working on a multi platform release and figured that Sony weren’t going to bother with it.

Hang on, I though Ninja Theory poured water on the flames of any Heavenly Sword rumour as long time ago….?
June 17th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
It was someone else working on it, innit.

Is this another one of your filthy whore deepthroat sources Pat?

According to the EG massive, HS was great. Demo put me right off, tbh.

sighs

The EG massive are talking out of their arseholes. It was one of the worst games of last year.

@morriss: what? Everyone thought it was shit, surely? I don’t think I’ve seen anyone say they thought it was good. Well.. nobody who isn’t an obvious fanboy, anyway.

Ninja Theory had a bit of a scuffle with Sony over the brand, I think. IIRC GamesIndustry did some “proper” reporting on this a few months back.

blerk: read the thread: disc, Charm et al really liked it iirc.

Nah Moz is right, a couple of staunch EG PS3 apologists apparently thought the heady mix of busted-ass two pass animation, tearing and fucking hat throwing was “sublime”
For me, the only good bit was Kai - oh and Andy Serkis’ over the top acting as Bohan. The rest sucked donkey biscuits through a glass of rancid milk

Original was too short and even though it was it somehow managed to become repetitive. More than that it was technically shonky with tearing and framerate drops.

“@morriss: what? Everyone thought it was shit, surely? I don’t think I’ve seen anyone say they thought it was good. Well.. nobody who isn’t an obvious fanboy, anyway.”
I thought it was reasonably well received? Most people said it was good, but not as good as GoW, and way too short. It wasn’t really shit in the way that Lair and Haze are.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Oh. I got the impression it *was* really shit in the way that Lair and Haze are.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Ah well, I haven’t played it myself, although I thought the demo was alright. The main complaint seemed to be about the length of the game.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
typo in the first line of the story btw. Yes I know, I really am that picky.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Does anyone actually *play* games here?
June 17th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
TJ: Only the good ones.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
Where’s the fun in that?
June 17th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Yep, common mistake. If you only play the good ones, what do you have to compare them to?
Look at me, I’m playing Mass Effect right now - it’s killing me, but at least the next time I play a decent RPG I’ll know about it.

Congratulations. Maybe start a blog to keep us updated?

Actually I was replying to you, not Psycho, TJ.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
I liked it. So officially its an ok game.

The spirit of Dreamcast has a new home.

I just kinda miss the dialogue complexity of old style Black Isle / Bioware RPGs. Now it really just boils down to four default choices: good, neutral, bad, or more info.
Apparently Obsidian’s Alpha Protocol is going a similar direction, which upsets me no end.
June 17th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
I don’t just play good games. Now and again I like to play the really bad ones just to balance things out. And I’ve played some corkingly bad stuff over the last few weeks. There’s actually something quite satisfying about reviewing really shitty games.
June 17th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
No great loss. The original was a crock of shit.
I never understood the whole ‘flawed genius’ comments attributed to it. I used my head (for once) on this one and rented a copy, and while it had some nice touches (mainly the character design and dialogue) the tearing was so jarring it just destroyed whatever atmosphere the game was trying to conjour up. If it was a ‘What the butler saw’ sim then maybe it would have got away with it. The fact that it was so criminally short as well didn’t do it any favours.
Spunk the money into something more worthwhile Sony.
