VG247’s looking for new contributors: apply within
June 17th, 2008 @ 10:51

Hello, internet. Videogaming247 is looking for new contributors. Hit the link to find out more.
Questions you will probably ask… answered!
If I get picked, what will I have to do?
Write news stories for the site.
Will I get paid?
No. This is a start-up website. Go figure.
Will I get paid in the future?
Potentially. If things go well, maybe. If they don’t, you won’t. But then neither will we, so we all lose. Think of this as a “hobby”.
Sounds rubbish. Why do I want to do it?
It’s that defeatist attitude that makes you the nobody you are, soldier. We’ll train you how to write as though you’re not mentally deficient. Your work will be professionally edited and you’ll get feedback. You will learn how to “do” games news. This will make you a better person. You’ll get your byline at the bottom of every piece you get published. You will, by definition, become a “name”. You’ll have something to put on your CV. You may be on the first rung to a career in videogames journalism.
Sounds amazing. Let’s go.
Not so fast, kemosabe. Answer the following questions with complete honesty.
- Are you a reasonable, mature person?
- Have you ever killed anybody?
- Do you have an encyclopedic knowledge of at least a few game genres?
- Do you read news?
- Do you love news?
- Does news literally make your cock hard?
- If you have no cock, does news give you erect nipples?
- Do you read a lot?
- If someone asks you about your favourite authors, can you reply happily or do you start dribbling?
- Do you enjoy writing quickly under pressure?
- Do you really want to learn how to write better?
- Does your desire to write supersede your love of games?
- Can you take criticism?
- Are you a twat? Honestly, now.
If you replied “no” to questions two and 14, “answer happily” to nine and “yes” to everything else, we’d probably like to hear from you. Send an email to editorial@videogaming247.com. We don’t want your CV, just a short note outlining who you are and why you want to write for the site. String a sentence together better than a four year-old and you may be in with a chance.
To be clear, we don’t care where you live or how old you are, but you must be over 18. We just want you to be a pleasant, competitive, intelligent person that likes reading, writing and playing videogames.
Good luck!

Well, I’d answer yes to 14. Go figure
June 17th, 2008 at 10:57 am
I think PT should be in charge of 360 news or all things 360.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:59 am
You’re not a twat, Mike. Promise.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:59 am
Competitive AND pleasant? Aren’t they anathemic?
June 17th, 2008 at 11:03 am
glol!
I suspect I’m probably too negative to do stuff like this. Plus, I killed someone once.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:09 am
Newbie is still obsessed with me I see.
Must be the new perfume… I MEAN AFTERSHAVE. Yes…
June 17th, 2008 at 11:10 am
Pat’ll edit your negativity out, Blerk. Sometimes anyway.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:14 am
My edits are always for the greater good
June 17th, 2008 at 11:20 am
Blerk would be great for this.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Hmm, interesting opportunity - VG247’s easily my fave news site and I miss writing….
I may be dropping you guys an email later
June 17th, 2008 at 11:26 am
Another vote here for Blerk _o/.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:37 am
I wouldn’t be entirely against the idea of writing again if other people were interested (the three people who remember Blerk’s World might be running screaming by this point), but I’m not very good at toeing the PR line. I wouldn’t want to get the site into trouble by spitting bile, and I wouldn’t want Pat to have to edit my stuff to bits before it was publishable. Also, I am supposed to have a proper job, like, so my real name would absolutely have to stay out of the picture.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:41 am
Blerk’s “I hate everything” attitude would make for fairly interesting reading.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:47 am
I would, but I don’t own the right consoles for the clique
June 17th, 2008 at 11:51 am
There’s only so many news stories you can do on your 18 broken 360s Carlo.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:58 am
i can do journalism … or at least i made it up for a while which is kind of the same thing
http://deadpixelsontoast.wordpress.com/author/elmuerko/
so if you ever need someone to make stuff up on slow news days (like news international) then give me a shout!
June 17th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
I thought that at first, Blerk. Seriously. But it’s weird. That edits made were in retrospect necessary. And what’s even weirder is, after being edited all the time, I now give more personal comment than ever before, just in a different way.

All I’ll say is, from experience, and not wishing to elevate myself above anything else, but as a hobby-writer, I’ve learnt more here in the 4-5 months I’ve been here than I have anywhere else.
Copy writing is a whole different ball game.
June 17th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
you work here?
i just thought you were stalking pat
June 17th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Pay me in promos and I’m all yours…
June 17th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
… we’re talking about writing peej, writing, not that other stuff you do.
June 17th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Cheeky twat! You think I write Frogger 2 reviews for FUN?
June 17th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
I’d contribute, but only if we can merge in DPOT.
June 17th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
El_M: I’m the one who(m) - can never get that right - has his name at the bottom of the articles.
June 17th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
blerklol
June 17th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Tis a shame about DPOT. I reckon the idea had legs. And the odd arm or two. But never thumbs.
June 17th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
“DPOT”?
June 17th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
dead pixels on toast, peej’s site of false gaming news, unfortunately everyone kinda stopped posting, my bat lady post was the last on the site, which is sad as i feel somehow responsible for it’s death …. of course i am as my writing sucked and my 8bit jebus went totally unappreciated!
June 17th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Well, I’ve sent my Application form in.
Thanks.
June 17th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
vg247 is the awesome. I just noticed.
I’d still like to know who is posting news for all items. Leaves a more profound impression. And sometimes the ironic comments should, well, go to “Comments” rather than the article.
I really like your site, visit it daily, and hope you find a few more writers that keep the same style.
June 17th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
I threw over an email.
Should be interesting to see how this turns out.
June 17th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
wz: patlike posts all of them apart from the ones that actually have a ‘by XXXXXX’ at the end of them.
June 17th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Sounds interesting, however I shan’t apply as I just got a monkey job in the industry and if my name started appearing in print on a website that doesn’t shy away from news leaks and rumours I’d probs get fired very quickly.
Good luck with it though, I enjoy your exhausting news coverage.
June 17th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Me, I threw in my hat as the expression goes.
June 18th, 2008 at 12:13 am
I sent somewhat of an app in…
June 18th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
I would love to apply to this but my grammar and English is half assed most of the time.
I love the site though and I’m sure whoever does get the job in the end will be very happy.
