Yakuza 2 to feature Japanese audio with English subtitles
June 18th, 2008 @ 08:59

Seganerds is reporting that Yakuza 2 will have English subtitles, allaying the fears of fans who complained about some awful English voice acting in the first installment. Says the site:
Authentic, cinematic sequel. The gritty, genuine portrayal of life in the Yakuza is made more realistic throughout 16 gripping chapters with a return to the original Japanese voice cast and English subtitles.
That should please most of you, we thought. Yakuza 2 is scheduled for a September release.

I didn’t think the voice acting in the first one was ‘awful’. Far from it, in fact - some of it was really good, and some of the cast are pretty well-known. But it did seem a bit weird for all these obviously-Japanese guys to be wandering around with American accents.
My biggest fear here was that they’d chop the budget for the sequel and use crappy voice actors instead of the original English cast. Not bothering with a dub and going with the original soundtrack is the best solution. Now if only they’d get it on the damn shelves.
