Metro gives Metal Gear Solid 4 a 3/5
June 23rd, 2008 @ 17:25

Free London newspaper the Metro has reviewed Metal Gear Solid 4 with a 3/5 (equivalent to a 6/10), Videogamer.com reports.
The paper hilariously insulted all Kojima fans by saying the plot was “utterly overblown” and that it “somehow manages to be both rubbish and exceptional at the same time”.
The review jumped at the gameplay as well as the storyline: “Solid Snake is back, older, wiser but unfortunately, if gameplay is anything to go by, more arthritic and boring”.
So, MGS4’s worst review came from a free British newspaper found on public transport. There’s probably some irony in there, if you look hard enough.

I can’t say I don’t entirely disagree with them… -__-

Not sure how that constitutes insulting all Kojima fans, and besides I would think “hilariously overblown” is a description even Kojima himself would have a hard time disagreeing with.
As for “both rubbish and exceptional at the same time”, I would imagine that’s what most people who aren’t raving Metal Gear fans would say about any of the MGS games.
3/5 seems harsh though.

Ah, the Metro. Always take a look at this on my trips to London, along with The London Paper. I’m not that big a Metal Gear Solid fan, personally. I liked MGS on the PSX, MGS 2 didn’t really appeal as much to me though, and after that I lost interest pretty much completely.
Give me Deus Ex any day.

The MGS story *is* both rubbish and exceptional at the same time. That’s why it’s so entertaining!
