PSP will last for 10 years, says Sony
June 24th, 2008 @ 20:46
Speaking to PocketGamer, Sony’s Zeno Colaço has confirmed that the firm is planning on having PSP around for a very long time yet.
“We definitely have the ambition for it to feature very strongly in the future, both on its own and also complimentary to PlayStation Network environment and the PS3,” he said. “But we’ll have to wait a while before we can fully reveal the direction we’re going in. Ten years is certainly the long-term plan though.”
At one game a year, that’ll be another ten games released. Right, kids?

Shatner - VG247 has a slight Xbox bias, you might have noticed.

eh? What has the PSP got to do with the XBox?
June 24th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
It’s geared towards the slight sarcasm against all things PlayStation, methinks.

Still nothing to do with the XBox though. and anyway, that’s ridiculous. unintentional, I’m sure. But of course, I can’t speak for everyone who writes here, innit.

I have noticed how PS3 has been left out at times, when mentioning multiformat games. For example, “this game will be out at Christmas on the 360″ with no mention that it’ll also be out at the same time on the PS3. I’m not saying it’s at all deliberate, just that I guess most of the guys reporting here are predominantly 360 gamers so they’ll subconsciously report more on that console. It’s no problem though, just how you guys roll.
“PSP has no games” is sooooo 2006 though. It’s actually got a really impressive library of titles now.

Ecu: Sure that’s not for the games where a PS3 date hasn’t been announced yet?
But yeah I guess it’s difficult to keep the site news friendly and personal without involving some bias… even though it’s mostly pretty mild.

News shouldn’t carry the authors bias.

I am so teh bias. Xboxes is better than playstations *any day*.

Pat hates Sony. You should see his bedroom.
Ecu: feel free to point out if PS3 release dates etc. aren’t mentioned or any other factual information we miss. The aim here is to be right on the money about all formats.

Shatner: I can read any site that just does news. I like VG247 because it has a bit of personality.

Psychotext, I can think of only one single gaming site that delivers news without trying to be Mr. Entertainment at the same time. If you have a list of sites that are clear, neutral and accurate then please share them with me.
I don’t have a problem with personality. So long as it doesn’t dilute or misrepresent the news being delivered.
On the whole, too many sites are putting too much effort injecting personality into their articles at the expense of clear, unbiased delivery of information. Either that or they’re spending more time in Photoshop or Google Image search working on a snappy picture for the headline than on checking the authenticity of the information they’re reporting. There’s an enormous gulf between this culture’s understanding of driven events and what actually drives events. It really doesn’t need to be misled any further.
Additionally, ‘personality’ can manifest itself as leading the reader to a preferred interpretation of the information (Kotaku and Evil Avatar do this with practically every post they make and are quietly ridiculed by most of the developers I know for doing so - amongst other reasons). If I’m gathering information I don’t want some messenger trying to tell me what it means. I’m plenty capable of understanding what it means without being ‘guided’ by ‘personality’.
Save personality for comments. The VG247 tagline is “This is the news” not “Hey kids, this is the news! Yo”.
