Valve: Why the PC is the future of gaming
June 27th, 2008 @ 18:32
Eurogamer has an interesting article up discussing the state of the PC gaming market with Gabe Newell and the Valve team. At a time when many are lamenting the “death” of PC gaming, Newell and his team believe the PC is still the future.
“PC’s are the same all over the world. All of sudden, if you can open up emerging markets and go somewhere like Russia or South East Asia, you’ve gone way further than you can go with a closed console. There are 17 million PC gaming customers in Russia alone,” said Gabe.
“As you move away from that huge first weekend, big blockbuster mentality,” says Newell, “you’re getting back to an area where smaller and smaller groups can connect with customers. I think you’re going to find that the enjoyment of being in the game industry as a developer on the PC is a lot greater than outside of it.”
There’s more through the link. A lot more.

Eventually the consoles will morph into PC’s… wait hasn’t that happened already Gabe! DuH!! Even the Wiii can get online and has some PC like functionality.
Honestly though I still see one more console generation before a “Common reference platform” takes over.
And yes Ecu…Gabe is fat douche bag! This is a guy who wanted a million dollars from Aspyr to let them port Half Life to the Mac. Douche bag, total douche bag!

All I can say is steam its easy affordable to most its the best thing in my opinion for PC gaming you can get some great titles on it and most of the time they don’t cost as much as the retail. Plus theres no DRM simple log in download and play.
PC gaming to me is still alive an kicking and will do so for ages to come.
