Activision has no plans to expand in UK
June 30th, 2008 @ 21:47
The UK has become a promised land for gaming – a flagship for a Europe now easily comparable to America and Japan as a market.
Even so, in an interview with The Times, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick ruled out further expansion in the up-and-coming sector of the industry.
“It is ridiculously expensive to live in the UK, especially in London,” he said. “What dictates our expansion plans would be whether we can compensate our employees fairly and whether they can achieve the quality of life that they want.”
Activision currently employs the services of 1,000 workers in the UK, but it looks like everyone else is out of luck.

So… don’t set up in London!
Honestly, I know it’s the capital city and I appreciate there may be some mythical sense of kudos that attaches to being based there, but FFS - set up somewhere north of Watford Gap and you can dramatically cut costs and offer your employees a better standard of living all in one go.

I’m surprised nobody has set up shop in Manchester - seems like it could be a very smart option.

Or lower cost areas just outside of Manchester?
