I’d hope you get some sort of in-game notice when a new message appears, and from the sounds of that, selecting your own music doesn’t automatically turn off the actual game music, which is maybe a limitation of having this feature parachuted in after the launch of the console.
Its a minor point but is there any reason why pushing the PS button couldn’t pause the game automatically, I can’t think of a situation where you wouldn’t want to pause it to access the menu. Obviously you couldn’t pause an online game.

Seems like such a minor thing, but I really like how you can switch PSN games without going back to the main XMB to choose first.
