Fallout 3 producer “disappointed” with Diablo III reveal
July 1st, 2008 @ 15:12
Fallout 3 producer Ashley Cheng has written on his blog that he’s “disappointed” with Diablo III as it appears to stick to gameplay from earlier titles in the series.
“I must say I am disappointed that Blizzard has stayed on the conservative side in terms of design with their updates to Diablo and Starcraft,” he said. “Diablo will be interesting since World of Warcraft has a lot of Diablo-like qualities. I have no doubt, however, that they will be incredibly fun, addictive and polished games. Blizzard is the top of the class when it comes to game development - nobody does it better.”
The comments are causing a bit of a ruckus at the moment, but there we are. Read the full thing through the link.

Post below is fucking GAY
July 1st, 2008 at 3:20 pm
OH NO
Game developer dares to go against mob rule of internet. Both of whom haven’t any first hand experience of the subject they refer too.
Game developer explains his argument. Mob just throw names.
Can’t say I’m impressed with the mob’s reasoning.
Also, VG247, I think you have your first, best candidate for some comment moderation right above this one.
Gamertrolls have a new home.

I was kidding, ffs! I too think Blizzard could’ve done something more interesting than a fixed isometric perspective.
Btw, you’re not the only anonymous poster who happens to work in ‘the industry’, chum - although you *could* lighten up a little.

i personally thought the 1st comment was a bit funny myself. very simply stuff but then sometimes simple things are just whats needed.
I could of course have a go myself but i don’t think the magic will stretch that far :/
Post below is a fucking CARPET….? yes? no?….hmm.

I never claimed I was. Don’t put words in my mouth. I’m capable of speaking for myself without some pottymouthed commentator trying to tell me what I’ve said.
Deanimate, you’re giving SticKboy too much credit. He edited his original post (directed at Ashley Cheung) to be directed at me after he read my post. If you really think responding to *anything* as “fucking gay” is some witty or cutting retort then it doesn’t say much for the overall mentality of gamer culture. Which is precisely why people like Anne Diamond can get away with writing nanny-state rubbish - because the culture refuses to show any maturity itself.
Troll mentality really doesn’t need encouragement or rewarding.

Oy gevult - listen to yourself. Nobody should take a comment like mine seriously - it was purposefully OTT and intended to be taken as irony! I mean, surely lambasting a critic of Diablo 3 by calling them “gay” is obviously a piss take of general forum behaviour, especially considering most Diablo players are older and consider themselves above fanboy protectivism?
If I was being a fanboy troll, I’d have devoted three paragraphs on why Fallout 3 isn’t a “true sequel” with a following two declaring console owners don’t “deserve” or won’t “get” the series. As it happens, I reckon F3 is looking great, love the direction and will defo buy it week one - fuck close minded haters.
In fact, I myself have been called much worse online in similar circumstances. And you know what I did? Same as I did with Anne Diamond’s “reviews”.
I laughed.
Try it some time, you might just enjoy it.

ouf this is getting into some serious shit here.
MI5 are probably locked and loaded already and about to bust down the HOUSE!
better sort some toast.
July 1st, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Don’t worry about that deanimate… I’ve heard MI5 bring the toast.

SticKboy, when something is funny, I laugh.
When something is purile, offensive, blatantly antagonistic, unwarranted and stupid I tend not to laugh.
Maybe you’re just not as funny as you think you are? Perhaps if you made an effort to write constructive comments instead of peppering swear words around and brandishing the term “fucking gay” about as if it made you look important to say it then you’d be making some sort of point. You’ve failed to do that and, instead, this turns into a squabbling mess because retarded gamers are more concerned with trying to look smart on the internet than they are at showing signs of intelligence.
I will laugh, however, when people who write “fucking gay” type comments cry on the internet about how they and their hobby isn’t taken seriously or that people don’t understand its significance. I’ll laugh. That’s because I find deluded idealism combined with blatant hypocrisy quite funny sometimes.
Have a nice day.

I LOVED the Diablo series. I’m glad they are keeping the main mechanics of the game. I was worried that they would go with the FPS or 3rd person perspective. I’m excited about.
It looks great!

What I find most amusing is Shatner sounding like Anne Diamond.
July 1st, 2008 at 6:49 pm
Shatner, inbetween casting aspersions I’m sure you’d agree that not all posts require well thought out arguments, or even serious discourse. Sometimes it’s nice to josh around, you know? Have some fun? Not everything has to be so deathly *fucking* serious.
When a constructive comment is called for, or when I’m compelled to write one, then I’ll do so. I didn’t judge this to be one of those occasions and, since we’re in pleasant enough company, i chose to take the piss - mostly out of myself, or perhaps gamer culture in general. It was intended to be self-knowing - you know, like an in-joke?
Just because you’re currently feeling sensitive about harsh online criticism doesn’t mean everyone else can’t tell the difference between a troll and a joke (funny or not).

thanks for the heads up psychotext. i was beginning to worry because im down to tescos own white sliced bread (did i say bread? i meant sewerage) and i think we all remember the bust of ‘69 when the infamous Jerry Buff dope dealing gang came up short with their classic line of “whats brown bread?.
those twats.

do you mean moose?
July 1st, 2008 at 8:39 pm
I am more than happy they kept Diablo like Diablo.
July 1st, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Or, perhaps, SticKboy, your joke wasn’t very well told and instead of admitting the fact you have to blame others for you not being funny.
Perhaps your impersonation of forum trolls is just a little too convincing.
And, perhaps, consider that sometimes, when you have nothing worth saying that you say nothing instead of trying to be funny, failing and then being so insular as to blame others for it.
As usual, I remain unconvinced of anything other than backpedlling in such comments to justify such stupid and unwarranted outburst. Yes, the internet allows everyone to express an opinion. Unfortunately, it means everyone yaps on when they should sometimes learn the value of saying nothing at all.
Unlike some, I stand by what I say. I never need to carefully go back to my posts and modify them to change their meaning after people respond to them. That, more than anything, has the strong whiff of guilt combined with very poor debating skills with it.
Your repeated attempts at personal digs do absolutely nothing to strengthen your sentiment. If anything, your behaviour seems to confirm my initial assessment rather than your “I’m only pretending to be a gamertroll” plea.
By all means, keep responding and keep condemning yourself further.

guys i have some terrible news. MI5 are holding me hostage and are currently trying to turn me into a loaf of Tiger Bread. tasty bread though so its not all doom and gloom.
anyway they wanted me to let you know that everyone needs to get together, have some toast and a cuppa, and chill out.
July 1st, 2008 at 11:51 pm
We would, but Shatner confiscated the toaster. Kept going on about how he’s the only one who knows how to make toast properly, then got through three loaves trying to show us.

Sorry for mentioning this again. It is a good idea to link the word “link” to the thing you wish to link to. It makes for a really smooth web experience.
July 2nd, 2008 at 8:25 am
It’s “Ashley Cheng” folks, there’s a typo in the name.
July 2nd, 2008 at 8:35 am
Fixed. Ta.
