Chrono Trigger for DS, says Famitsu
July 2nd, 2008 @ 07:30

According to the latest edition of Famitsu, a DS version of Chrono Trigger’s in the works. We’re not going to pretend: we don’t know anything about the game. There, we said it. The fanboys are going mental, though, so take a look on WiiEveryDay.
Update: This is the official countdown to the announcement, apparently.

You write about games for a living, but you don’t know anything about Chrono Trigger?? Have you at least heard of the SNES?? It’s only one of the best SNES games ever!

Blimey portable Chrono Trigger would be excellent.
With this and stuff like Xenogears and Einhander hitting PSN is seems Squarenix are making the most of their impressive back-catalogue.
I hope they don’t add needless stylus mechanics though - or remix the original games’ music. (I still love Spekkio’s theme and the frog’s theme!)
VG247 - do yourselves a favour an play this game, you won’t regret it.

I’d rather admit I know nothing about it than lie and get caught out. Honesty for the win. I’ve heard of it, obviously, but SNES was all about Mario World and getting stoned off my box to me, I’m afraid
I only really got into RPGs “properly” in the last few years, I suppose. The only Japanese role-playing stuff I played previously was Final Fantasy.
And yeah, I’ll give the DS version a try. Be rude not to.

Isn’t this one of those games that never got a PAL release? It’s not surprising people haven’t played it. I never had a SNES but my friends that did only ever played Mario and Street Fighter. I didn’t know many hardcore importers when I was 12\13!

Indeed, it’s a stranger to PAL-land. I’ve only ever played it on an emulator, which is kind of ironic for the ‘best SNES game ever’.

I confess I’ve never played Chrono Trigger either, but reading through the Wiki page (minus the story spoilers, natch) it sounds great. Definitely one I’ll have on my wish list for my DS.

Didn’t get a PAL release on SNES, but is has been re-released on PS1 in PAL as far as I know.
It is a great game though; it was supposed to be the dream collaboration between (then) Final Fantasy’s Hironobu Sakaguchi and the Dragon Ball Z bloke Toriyama, and while it was brilliant and did time travel probably better than any other game ever has done to date, Final Fantasy VI, which came out at more or the less the same time, was just that bit better.
Definitely worth a play Pat.

No, the PSOne version never made it to Europe either. And neither did the sequel, Chrono Cross.
Actually, bugger Chrono Trigger DS. I’d kill for a proper sequel. Kill, I tell you.

Fair enough. I defer to the thread’s collective wisdom. I’ll try the DS version though, innit.

Great news, since this is one of the best games ever.
